About The Position

This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Origin’s Blue Moon landers and related products. To further Blue Origin's mission of millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth, we are building sustainable infrastructure for our transport of crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface. As part of a hardworking team, you will contribute to the design of avionics hardware for future space vehicles, including electrical power; command and data handling; and guidance, navigation and control systems. This position will directly impact the history of space exploration, and your commitment to the role will further the cause of safe and repeatable spaceflight. In this position, you will be responsible for ensuring our avionics components are certifiable for crewed spaceflight. This will include developing hardware requirements, planning the verification and validation campaigns, and generating key design lifecycle artifacts for hardware certification. You will also support cross-functional trades and impact studies for architectures and vehicles that you support. This foundational part of our vision will require excellent communication and teamwork. You will work directly with NASA and our National Team Partners as part of the Human Landing System (HLS) Sustaining Lunar Development (SLD) program. You will play a key role in developing the Lunar Transportation system that will return humans to the Moon and extend human presence permanently beyond Earth. Requirements

  • B.S. degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Math, or Physics
  • Applied knowledge of systems engineering principles and practices such as requirements development, validation, and verification
  • Experience with Engineering, PLM, and collaboration tools such as JAMA, JIRA, Confluence, Windchill, Creo, and SharePoint
  • 2+ years of proven industry experience in the development of electronic hardware
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and supply to a culture of collaboration

Nice To Haves

  • M.S. in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related technical subject area
  • 4+ years of space systems engineering or fungible experience in other highly complex industry areas (such as aerospace, medical, or automotive)
  • Experience in design, analysis, test, operation, and/or certification of aerospace safety critical systems
  • Experience with software tools such as JAMA, MATLAB/Simulink, Confluence, JIRA, Git, Creo, and Windchill
  • Experience with end-to-end product development, from concept definition to hardware integration
  • Experience with complex electronic hardware and software certification in accordance with DO-254, DO-178, and/or similar design assurance standards
  • Strong system safety and mission assurance fundamentals (including, but not limited to FMECAs, FTAs, and FHAs)

Responsibilities

  • Develop and decompose component functional and performance requirements
  • Coordinate with Integration & Test personnel on the development and execution of requirements verification and validation plans
  • Coordinate with safety engineers to evaluate hardware criticality and inform design assurance and certification needs for various hardware items
  • Develop and maintain hardware budgets and key technical performance measures
  • Support trade studies and supply knowledge to help guide design implementation and perform audits of design artifacts to ensure adherence to design assurance requirements
  • Facilitate and lead key milestone reviews across the full lifecycle of hardware development
  • Identify and fix gaps in existing process, tools, infrastructure, and continually improve solutions along the way
