About The Position

The purpose of this position is to fill a new role created by upcoming business opportunities from the customer. The company seeks an engineer, preferably with some experience, although it is not required. The selected engineer will undergo a temporary training period at SEWS Detroit Technical Center (Farmington Hills, MI), as well as circuitry-specific training at the customer site, including hands-on exercises, before joining a development team for one of Toyota's upcoming new vehicles. The new team member will be responsible for harness design (circuitry design).

Requirements

  • BS Degree in Electrical Engineering, 0–5 years of experience in automotive design (preferably harness-related).
  • Must be willing to travel.
  • The candidate's primary work location will be on-site at the customer's location in York Township, not at Sumitomo's Farmington Hills location.
  • The candidate must be willing to follow the in-office attendance policy requested by SEWS or the customer.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of automobile electrical design software (Zuken) is a plus.
  • Japanese bilingual skills are not required but are considered a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Inputs and maintains product design data (wiring specifications and subsystem diagrams) on Toyota's circuitry design system throughout the developmental phases of assigned projects.
  • Works closely with other departments at Toyota (and SEWS) to maintain the communication levels necessary for project success.
  • Outputs Toyota data and drawings and distributes them to all necessary locations with timeliness and accuracy.
  • Visits SEWS manufacturing plants at planned stages of the project to review harness quality and workability, and to explain critical harness points to manufacturing members.
  • Visits Toyota's manufacturing plants through the customer's RE (Resident Engineer) program to investigate quality and workability problems in the vehicle and apply effective countermeasures.
  • Understands design quality controls and applies them throughout the harness development process to achieve excellent design quality.
  • Fully understands the project design schedule and follows it to reach each milestone in a timely manner.
  • Responsible for understanding Toyota standards and procedures and following them closely throughout the course of assigned projects.
  • Responsible for understanding SEWS' Design Standards, the Internal Wire Harness Checksheet, and past problem checklists, and applying this knowledge to both initial harness development and harness evaluations.
  • Understands harness circuitry design and harness components, and can participate in R&D for the next generation of Toyota vehicles.
