Under the direction of the Manager, Systems Engineer, the Systems Engineer I is responsible for engineering and designing solutions to simplify, standardize, and optimize operations for the IT department. The role will work closely with various IT personnel to ensure all systems are running optimally and meeting performance levels. This role will work with fellow Systems Engineers to implement applications and enforcing security policies across the Enterprise.

  • Engages with project teams to implement full-stack solutions and provides ongoing assurance of technology solutions through discovery.
  • Engineers’ solutions for computer and storage systems to support the efficient operation of the enterprise and decommissions systems at the end of the service cycle.
  • Creates and maintains documented policies, procedures, and processes such as operational runbooks and architectural diagrams.
  • Troubleshoots any issues that arise with the infrastructure systems, including but not limited to, working with third-party vendors as well as other internal team members.
  • Mentors and trains with other team members throughout the enterprise, seeking to continually improve processes.
  • Performs incident, problem, and change management tasks (including but not limited to root cause analysis, request for change, and event/incident management).
  • Engineers and automates proactive monitoring of key compute, storage, and network systems, and engineers new capabilities to optimize the performance of endpoints.
  • Engineers and manages backup, restore and disaster recovery capabilities to continually meet the needs of the enterprise and meet or exceed service level agreements.
  • Performs on-call responsibilities on a rotational basis to support essential enterprise clients and emergencies outside of business hours.
  • Performs other duties as assigned to support the efficient operation of the department.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Information Technology, or a related field is required.
  • Minimum of four (4) years of systems administration experience is required.
  • Related, relevant, and/or direct experience may be considered in lieu of minimum educational requirements indicated above.
  • Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to create technical documentation and diagrams.
  • Strong understanding of Active Directory & Domain architecture, New Technology File System (NTFS) permissions, Domain Name System (DNS), Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP), and certificate management.
  • Experience working with Structured Query Language (SQL) databases, virtual machine software from VMWare, and Microsoft Windows Server in a large environment.
  • Experience with enterprise-level Microsoft Windows systems including patching, backup, and disaster recovery platforms.
  • Must be capable of critical thinking and possess the ability to optimize system setups and resolve complex problems.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Windows scripting including Powershell, Batch, and Visual Basic Script (VBScript) is preferred.
  • Knowledge of cloud technologies: Amazon Web Services (AWS), Azure, and Microsoft M365 is preferred.
  • Hardware experience with Dell, Cisco, and Pure Storage is preferred.
  • Certifications in VMWare and Microsoft preferred.
  • Cloud certifications are preferred.
