About The Position

As our Systems Engineer, Future Capabilities , you will provide critical technical leadership and systems engineering expertise for future capability initiatives within the PMA-271 Advanced Systems Team. The ideal candidate will bring a breadth of experience in communications and avionics systems engineering, along with familiarity with the DoD Program Objective Memorandum (POM) process. Key Responsibilities: Lead the engineering analysis and evaluation of Future Naval Capabilities (FNC), Navy S&T initiatives, ONR projects, DARPA efforts, and SBIR proposals. Conduct technical capability gap analyses and mission needs assessments to inform program planning. Develop system architecture concepts, technical roadmaps, and engineering recommendations for future capabilities. Ensure technical performance standards are met and serve as a primary technical authority on S&T contracts. Provide engineering solutions and recommendations to resolve complex technical issues, and represent the program in technical forums, design reviews, and conferences. Coordinate input from Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), Fleet representatives, OPNAV, and PMA-271 engineering teams to support POM Issue Sheets. Prepare, finalize, and submit technical documentation in support of the POM process. Participate in the planning, coordination, and execution of engineering tasks across the program lifecycle. Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior engineers and support staff. Perform additional engineering support as required by the program office. This description outlines the general nature and scope of the role. Additional duties may be assigned as necessary.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an accredited institution is required. (An associate’s degree with 5 additional years of relevant engineering experience may be considered in lieu of a bachelor’s degree.)
  • 10+ years of relevant engineering experience, including at least 4 years in acquisition programs; at least 1 year must include program or project management responsibilities.
  • Experience with the DoD POM process is required.
  • Ability to build positive, collaborative relationships across teams and with external partners.
  • Effective communicator with strong verbal and written skills.
  • Proactive, self-directed work style with the ability to operate independently.
  • Analytical thinker with proven problem-solving capabilities.
  • Highly organized, with the ability to balance competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • This position requires U.S. citizenship and an active DoD Top Secret clearance. Selected candidate will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.

Nice To Haves

  • Demonstrated ability to apply advanced systems engineering principles and practices across broad technical assignments.
  • Strong knowledge of communications and avionics systems, particularly in Navy or DoD applications.
  • Completion of Defense Acquisition University (DAU) Intermediate-level management/leadership training (or equivalent) is desired.
