About The Position

Redhorse is transforming how the Department of Defense (DoD) utilizes data and technology. We are seeking a highly skilled Systems Engineer to join our team supporting the Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition & Sustainment (OUSD(A&S)). You will play a critical role in advancing data-driven decision-making across the DoD, designing and implementing robust data solutions that directly impact national security initiatives and investments. This is a high-impact position offering significant opportunity to shape the future of DoD data management and analytics.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree with 7+ years of experience, or
  • Master’s degree with 5+ years of experience.
  • Degree must be in Systems Engineering or a closely related field such as Modeling & Simulation Engineering.
  • Strong experience in network capacity planning, network security, and best practices for network/system management.
  • Experience designing and developing network architectures and data-exchange methods (APIs, cloud storage, secure environments).
  • Proficiency in Python programming.
  • Excellent technical writing and documentation skills.
  • Familiarity with the following concepts and frameworks:
  • Data Mesh and Systems-of-Systems
  • Systems Engineering processes
  • Zero Trust Architecture
  • Access management principles
  • DoD classification and security implementation
  • Microservice architecture

Responsibilities

  • Identify and mitigate technical risks, ensuring proposed solutions maintain interoperability with DoD systems and align with global standards.
  • Develop and review system documentation including diagrams, technical assessments, architecture descriptions, and design artifacts.
  • Evaluate new tools, technologies, and services; provide recommendations for adoption, improvement, and integration into DoD environments.
  • Ensure all functional and performance analysis models accurately reflect operational performance requirements.
  • Serve as a technical advisor on systems engineering approaches, tool selection, diagnostics, and problem-solving methodologies—including the use of artificial intelligence where appropriate.
  • Consult with government and mission stakeholders to obtain, refine, and exchange complex technical information.
  • Support the development and documentation of scalable network architectures, data exchange methods, and secure integration pathways.
  • Contribute to system designs involving network architecture, cloud storage, API-based data exchange, and cross-domain or access-denied environments.
  • Apply network capacity planning principles, network security best practices, and general systems management expertise.
  • Ensure adherence to DoD requirements including Zero Trust Architecture, access management standards, and classification handling rules.
