About The Position

The Systems Engineer 5 - Lead Mission Integrator position is responsible for leading the Vandenberg Integration activities between customer, Range, Launch Vehicle payloads and Launch Vehicle Operations Engineering Team. This position is required to work with multidiscipline project teams to evaluate customer/operational needs in the processing of customer payloads and the integration of the encapsulated payload into the Vulcan Centaur launch vehicle, as well as supporting Launch Operations activities for mission processing to include major development and transition to Vulcan Centaur. This position applies education and knowledge of System Engineering principles and practices in the development and maintenance of test procedures, maintenance procedures and other types of launch processing documents as well as Engineering Principles to analyze and develop solutions to problems.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) field from an accredited college or university
  • Experience leading cross-functional teams in requirements analysis, development, integration, and verification, including trade study management and risk management
  • Experience working in the Launch Base Processing Environment
  • Experience developing, implementing, and tailoring systems engineering processes
  • Excellent written and oral communication
  • Organization skills necessary to maintain focus and achieve consensus within diverse multi-disciplined teams
  • Experience with Word, Excel, and Power Point to include the integration of charts for large presentations to the customer
  • Ability to travel to other ULA locations
  • Active DoD TS is required. US Citizenship required
  • Minimum of 8 years of related work experience

Responsibilities

  • Investigate and develop resolutions for process and hardware anomalies.
  • Interpret Engineering and other technical specifications
  • Jointly determines the approaches and processes to be used to solve problems.
  • Review and understand Interface Control Document (ICD). The mission ICD defines the technical interfaces between the Spacecraft (SC) and the Launch Vehicle (LV).
  • Review and understand Range interfaces and Universal Document System (UDS). The UDS defines the technical interfaces between the Spacecraft/Launch Vehicle and Range support services and assets.
  • Review and support development of the Mission Unique (MU) proposal Basis of Estimate (BOE) for the mission.
  • Communicate and coordinate standard mission and mission unique tasks with responsible engineers to ensure understanding of requirement implementation and feasibility.
  • Read, Learn and Observe Launch Vehicle and Payload Processing operational procedures. Understand terminology, acronyms and get a sense of timelines for operations.
  • Become familiar with the standard Facility interfaces that are available to support SC and LV operations or requirements. Understand when existing capabilities are baseline services and which may require additional consideration for cost or schedule impact. If the work is above and beyond the baseline service, there is an impact that must be identified, quantified, and coordinated.
  • Coordinate Spacecraft testing and support schedules
  • Identify mission unique days in the LV process flow during the Integration process and notify Program Ops Planning/OSE for incorporation into schedules.
  • Conduct Integration meetings to develop mission specific support plans and schedules to ensure the effective integration and communication of ULA Launch Base personnel and Spacecraft Customer/Support Teams activities and requirements.
  • Lead/manage launch site inputs and analysis for VSFB mission proposal efforts
  • Lead VSFB mission integration trade studies
  • Manage VSFB Mission Integration and Mission Unique budgets
  • Manage VSFB mission integration contract deliverables
  • Lead execution of VSFB missions, ensuring commonality in execution approach, among the mission integration team
  • Act as primary point of contact to local OSL and PLSSS team for real time launch site coordination
