About The Position

The IT Systems Engineer I position serves as the foundation for more senior roles within the IT department. It requires a strong understanding of information technology, problem-solving skills, and the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team. Candidates will possess the experience and skills to assist and serve by providing technical insights to project managers and stakeholders regarding IT system solutions being deployed within the enterprise environment. The IT Systems Engineer I will be expected to support the design, configuration, delivery and maintenance of IT solutions under the guidance of a Sr. Engineer or Manager. Must have the aptitude to understand and support IT infrastructure, product and platform solutions. Must be able to support the design and delivery of fundamental IT system initiatives, to include cloud, non-cloud, and hybrid-cloud systems. Work in collaboration with other IT teams, leadership, enterprise business partners, vendors and project/design teams, in all aspects of the secure & reliable hosting of applications throughout Exelon's large & complex enterprise and real time operational environments. The ideal candidate should possess a distinct understanding of IT concepts in areas such as network cabling and wiring, fiber optic services, voice and data wiring installations, security and wireless solutions and site survey assistance. Should also be familiar with both firmware-based devices and installed operating systems. Position may be required to work extended hours, including 24 x 7 coverage during storms (storm duty rotation). Must sit onsite at our Joliet, IL location. No relocation is available.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Computer Networking with 2 - 4 years' experience in IT infrastructure design, application design, cloud computing, disaster/recovery, or 3-6 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience with system administration.
  • Experience with drafting technical documentation.
  • Demonstrated ability to think and apply skillset beyond the day-to-day operations.
  • Demonstrated ability to use technical resources and collaborate to solve problems.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate technical information in non-technical terminology (written and verbal).
  • Demonstrated strong teamwork skills with self-motivation in a rapidly evolving environment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of industry trends.
  • Basic knowledge of financial impact analysis.
  • Understand basic monitoring concepts and how tools are used to meet those requirements.
  • Perform basic independent troubleshooting by looking through logs and can investigate and fix simple code issues.
  • Provide technical expertise and/or engineering support for cloud solutions.
  • Basic understanding of security best practices.
  • Ability to create simple scripts.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or related field and 2-5 years relevant experience IT infrastructure Data Center support.
  • Identify and prepare network cabinets (site survey).
  • Rack, stack, and configure servers, switches, firewalls, etc.
  • Network cabling and cable management (commonly referred to as Layer1).
  • PDU (Power Distribution Unit) installation and configuration.
  • Familiarity with DCIM tools for inventory and monitoring.
  • Familiarity with ServiceNow.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in at least one operational domain such as structured cabling, hardware troubleshooting, and or critical facilities (power, cooling, HVAC).
  • Strong troubleshooting and communication skills.
  • Ability to travel locally 24x7 on-call rotational duties.

Responsibilities

  • Participates in discussions with business partners and vendors to gather information.
  • Assist with supporting leadership, architecture, project teams and end users to identify system requirements.
  • Assists with writing system specifications, logical & physical architecture diagrams, and implementation plans.
  • Delivers practical, efficient, and cost-effective solutions that satisfy business needs, including hands-on configuration, troubleshooting and optimization and supporting metrics for the same.
  • Work closely with others to assist development of future plans, resource requirements, migration strategies, and project schedules.
  • Provide input into presentations to Engineering and Architecture Review Boards.
  • Responsible for engineering, documenting, implementing and supporting solutions at the component level, including hands-on configuration, troubleshooting and optimization and supporting metrics for the same.
  • Provide supporting data to leadership and peers about risks identified during business impact analysis, site risk assessments and disaster recovery planning.
  • Design, support and maintain custom system integration with other platforms, specific to the needs of the customers.
  • Maintain relevancy and knowledge in current and evolving emerging IT systems technologies.
  • Develop technical knowledge and business acumen within discipline or function.

  • Annual salary will vary based on a candidate's skills, qualifications, experience, and other factors: $84,000.00/Yr. - $115,500.00/Yr.
