About The Position

Boeing's Information Digital Technology and Security (IDT&S) Manufacturing and Quality (M&Q) is currently seeking a (Mid-Level or Senior) Systems Design and Integration Specialist to join the Connected Manufacturing team in one of the following locations/areas: Seattle, WA, St. Louis, MO, N. Charleston, SC, Portland, OR, Salt Lake City, UT, Los Angeles, CA, Mesa, AZ, Ridley Park, PA, or Huntsville, AL This is a Hybrid role w/expectations of going into the facility as needed/required. There is no sponsorship now or in the future for this position. It requires a US Person (Green Card holder or US Citizen) The Connected Manufacturing team accelerates Boeing’s factory digital transformation by delivering secure, standardized, and scalable data collection and analytics capabilities that drive measurable improvements in production performance and cost. As a Systems Integrator, you will be responsible operating across multiple domains, including building solutions for connectivity to collect data from factory equipment, designing and implementing data collection architectures, building time-series data pipelines and dashboards, integrating with MES and other reporting systems, and using this data and information to creatively solve problems relating to Boeing’s manufacturing operations, such as creating predictive maintenance and machine-performance models and analysis. As part of the platform development team, this role will be responsible for developing, deploying, and maintaining scalable, secure, and reliable infrastructure that supports real-time data collection and analytics from industrial devices and equipment using both cloud and factory edge-based capabilities. They will leverage modern skillsets such as cloud-native technologies, container orchestration, automation, and continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) to help modernize Boeing’s factory data collection solutions.

Requirements

  • 5+ years in leading the design of IT Solutions for manufacturing-based environments, understanding of manufacturing operational processes and information systems
  • 5+ years in IT infrastructure development, scripting and automation
  • 3+ years in data-centric roles, such as data modeling and database administration using a variety of data storage solutions including relational and non-relational databases, timeseries data historians, and cloud-based data storage offerings
  • Strong troubleshooting and root-cause analysis skills in a factory environment

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelors or higher degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, MIS, or equivalent.
  • 7+ years in leading the design of IT Solutions for manufacturing-based environments, understanding of manufacturing operational processes and information systems
  • 7+ years in IT infrastructure development, scripting and automation
  • 5+ years in data-centric roles, such as data modeling and database administration using a variety of data storage solutions including relational and non-relational databases, timeseries data historians, and cloud-based data storage offerings
  • Familiarity with Industry 4.0, Digital Transformation, and Unified Namespace concepts, tools, and standards
  • Experience in manufacturing, industrial automation, or IIoT roles with hands-on work on factory floor data collection and equipment integration
  • Familiarity with industrial protocols and interfaces (OPC-UA, MQTT, Modbus, EtherNet/IP, Profinet, etc.)
  • Experience integrating AI into software development and infrastructure management lifecycles
  • Familiarity with MES, SCADA, or historian systems (e.g., OSIsoft PI, GE Historian, Ignition)
  • Proven experience with cloud-native and modern software development practices, infrastructure-as-code deployments, CI/CD pipelines, and container-based orchestration
  • Experience with edge-driven factory systems, with a solid understanding of OT cybersecurity fundamentals and industrial network architectures
  • Experience with digital twin modeling and simulation of manufacturing processes

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement factory floor connectivity architectures to reliably collect data from manufacturing equipment, PLCs, machine controllers, sensors, and test stands, enabling KPI, OEE, and other quality metric calculations.
  • Manage integration of factory data with enterprise information systems, IIoT platforms, and other Boeing reporting systems.
  • Develop full stack solutions and processes for modernizing the factory data collection and integration platforms, integrating modern development practices, testing, deployments, and tooling.
  • Develop and validate data models, time-series ingestion pipelines, and data quality checks to ensure trustworthy factory data for analytics and decision-making.
  • Support creation of dashboards, visualizations, and alerting for machine performance, production bottlenecks, and downtime root-cause analysis.
  • Establish and document best practices for edge device configurations, data encryption, access control, and OT/IT network segmentation.
