As a Systems Configuration Engineer within Google Technical Operations, you will join the team responsible for designing and delivering highly efficient and capable system configurations to Google’s data center fleet. You will unleash your significant talents to collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver complex Configuration Engineering designs. This includes working with stakeholders and customers to ensure that we deliver well-engineered compute permutations. You will help the product teams deliver consistent results while improving process transparency and predictability. To be successful in this role, you must have superb problem-solving skills and demonstrate the ability to apply new technologies to designs. You will become a subject matter expert on the incumbent process and data structures. You will also influence and affect the transformation of internal business processes and procedures. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or a specialized field (e.g., Optics, Sensors, Audio/DSP, etc.), or equivalent practical experience.
  • 2 years of experience in hardware configuration management, manufacturing engineering, or systems integration.
  • Experience creating and managing technical production definitions (e.g., Bills of Materials (BoMs), wiring diagrams, or physical rack layouts).
  • Experience working with Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems or similar configuration databases.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, or a related field (e.g., Optics, Sensors, Audio/DSP).
  • Experience developing and maintaining system level compute architectures, with understanding of interdependencies from a power, networking, and physical interface perspective.
  • Experience influencing the product design process for design for manufacture and assembly considerations.

Responsibilities

  • Design and create system-level deployment configurations for finished good assemblies based on customer and technical infrastructure requirements.
  • Provide technical expertise and system-level guidance to internal design and development teams to ensure deployment of optimized configurations.
  • Participate in and contribute to cross-functional transformation efforts as pertinent to configuration engineering processes and deliverables.
  • Provide engineering and manufacturing guidance to our integration supply chain partners, as it pertains to system configuration and installation.
  • Create required design documentation (bills of materials, payload layouts, wiring diagrams) for approved production definitions for rack systems.
