About the position

Southwest Tennessee Community College is seeking a Systems Analyst I to join our Application Services team. This full-time position is crucial for the analysis and design of application software within a higher education environment. The Systems Analyst I will report directly to the Director of Enterprise Application Services and will be responsible for managing programming, upgrades, testing, documentation, and deployment of various systems. The role supports the College's business applications, including the Ellucian Banner software, operating in a Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) and Oracle environment. In this position, the Systems Analyst I will maintain one or more application systems, implementing both in-house and vendor-supplied upgrades and enhancements. The analyst will design and develop effective technical solutions to meet end-user identified information systems needs, working independently and directly with senior end-user staff. Day-to-day responsibilities include providing functional client support for problem resolution, designing and implementing API services based on system requirements, and writing clean, maintainable code for API development and automation tasks. The role also involves integrating third-party services and systems via APIs to enhance application capabilities and monitoring assigned business applications to ensure accurate and reliable processing. The Systems Analyst I will provide primary technical and analytical leadership in deploying administrative information systems, manage change management initiatives, and ensure departmental procedures are followed for project management and testing. Additionally, the analyst will create and maintain business application documentation and participate in disaster recovery planning and testing. This position may also involve other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains one or more application systems including the implementation of in-house and vendor-supplied upgrades and enhancements.
  • Designs and develops effective and efficient technical solutions strategies for end-user identified information systems needs working independently and directly with senior end user staff.
  • Provides day-to-day functional client support for problem resolution of assigned application systems.
  • Designs and implements API services based on system requirements and industry best practices.
  • Writes clean, maintainable, and efficient code for API development and automation tasks.
  • Integrates third-party services and systems via APIs to enhance application capabilities.
  • Monitors assigned business applications to ensure accurate and reliable processing.
  • Provides primary technical and analytical leadership in the deployment of administrative information systems.
  • Monitors and manages assigned initiatives for change management, project management and testing to ensure departmental procedures are followed.
  • Monitors and manages assigned ticket/work requests to ensure departmental procedures are followed to provide resolution and closure.
  • Maintains knowledge and skills with respect to contemporary database and business applications technology, tools, and products.
  • Creates, maintains, and procures business application documentation and project documentation.
  • Participates in Disaster Recovery planning, testing, and recovery efforts.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree desired, preferably in IT-related field or significant IT coursework.
  • Two (2) or more years of experience as a programmer analyst or systems analyst.
  • Work experience and proficiency in one of the following databases: Oracle, MS SQL Server.
  • Work experience and proficiency in one or more of the following operating systems: Unix, Linux, Windows.
  • Work experience and proficiency in one or more of the following programming languages: Java, HTML5, PHP, ASP.NET, SQL, PL/SQL, Pro C, Shell Scripting, MySQL, XSL.
