System Test & Integration Engineer (Spacecraft AI&T)

Karman+ - Launching the Regolith AgeBroomfield, CO
9h$90,000 - $140,000Onsite

About The Position

At Karman+, we’re building spacecraft systems that will take us beyond Earth orbit. For the High Frontier mission, we need a hardware-intimate, system-focused AI&T engineer to plan and execute system-level testing. This role is perfect for someone who thrives at the intersection of systems, software, and physical flight hardware — ensuring our spacecraft is fully operational and flight-ready before launch. As a Spacecraft System Test & Integration Engineer, you’ll own the planning and execution of system level testing in FlatSat/HITL environments and directly on the flight vehicle. This role will lead the design and execution of our spacecraft's test campaigns. You will be responsible for ensuring that our systems are flight-ready, bridging the gap between hardware, flight software (FSW) architecture, and mission-level risk mitigation. This is a role for an engineer who thrives on system-level troubleshooting, from identifying EMI issues to validating complex "plugs-out" sequences. You’ll develop test plans, manage test scripts, and ensure smooth collaboration between engineering teams during major test campaigns. This role requires both a system-level view and a deep passion for getting hands-on with test execution, electrical troubleshooting, and hardware handling. This position is for someone who enjoys the fast-paced environment of the test floor, high level spacecraft operations, coordinating across multiple teams, and safely managing the risks associated with flight hardware, keeping tests organized and traceable.

Requirements

  • Hands-on experience planning and executing spacecraft system-level tests (initial power-on, functional, mission simulations, etc.).
  • Strong understanding of system verification and validation processes.
  • Deep understanding of Flight Software (FSW) architecture and its critical relationship to system-level debugging.
  • Familiarity with GitLab or other repository tools.
  • Ability to analyze test data, document results, and track anomalies to closure.
  • Experience in relevant software areas (Python, Bash, Linux based OS, LabView, etc.).
  • Experience working with electrical test equipment (DMMs, power supplies, oscilloscopes, signal generators, BOBs, spectrum analyzers, electronic loads, etc.).
  • Experience using ground command/control software (COSMOS, InControl, NASA ASIST, or similar).
  • Experience building and maintaining FlatSat or HITL environments.
  • Some exposure to spacecraft dynamics simulation and its uses in system level testing.
  • BS in Systems, Electrical, Aerospace, or Mechanical Engineering (or related technical field).

Nice To Haves

  • Experience developing test data analysis tools.
  • Experience leading multi-day, multi-discipline spacecraft test campaigns (on the floor or operating the vehicle on-console).
  • Flight operations experience.

Responsibilities

  • Take ownership of the planning and execution of flight vehicle system-level tests.
  • Tests may include power distribution, GNC phasing, RF compatibility, self-compatibility, vehicle-level TVAC, FSW load, prop system functional, or mission simulations.
  • Lead "plugs-out" testing and debugging to ensure the spacecraft and payloads interact safely under all flight conditions.
  • Take responsibility for the health and safety of the flight vehicle during powered testing including the identification and mitigation of EMI/EMC anomalies.
  • Perform electrical mates and measurements (utilizing BOBs, DMM, oscilloscope, etc.).
  • Command and control the vehicle during powered testing.
  • Take ownership of FlatSat (commonly called HITL) system level test/integration planning and execution.
  • Bridge the gap between FlatSat dry-runs and final flight vehicle execution.
  • Functional testing to ensure ~100% FSW test coverage.
  • Closed loop simulation tests for launch/activation, cruise, encounter, and off-nominal scenarios.
  • Lead complex troubleshooting and root-cause analysis for electrical noncomformances.
  • Flight vehicle test dry-runs.
  • Flight operations products vetting prior to uplink.
  • Ensure the FlatSat is ready and available for software teams to use for Gitlab CI/CD pipelines. Maintain a balance between automated software development testing, system-level manual testing, and FlatSat hardware safety.
  • Develop, maintain, and version control…
  • Test configurations
