The System Technician I at Sparklight is responsible for providing world-class support service through new customer installations, equipment repairs, and troubleshooting. This role is crucial for maintaining high-quality connectivity and involves working with various telecommunications systems, including Headend, HFC, and fiber optic networks.   • Troubleshoot and diagnose malfunctions in Headend, HFC, and fiber optic networks.
  • Repair local plant performance issues and customer-owned equipment using electronic test equipment.
  • Read and interpret system/network design maps and verify as-built documentation.
  • Splice and/or terminate coaxial and fiber optics cables, and mount active and passive devices.
  • Activate devices and test to ensure optimal performance of all equipment in the HFC/fiber optic plant.
  • Perform surveys to determine customer-requested service locations.
  • Create maps/drawings for estimating costs for plant/drop extensions.
  • Perform underground facility locates to prevent cable damage and service interruptions.
  • Conduct construction maintenance duties including splicing and repairing cables and equipment.
  • Monitor plant for ingress/egress and perform signal leakage ride-out activities.
  • Train system technical personnel as directed by local management.
  • One-year certificate from college or technical school, or three to four years related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must successfully complete Sparklight Technical Training Center Advanced Technician course within 6 months of accepting position.
  • Working knowledge of signal level meters, volt-ohm meters (VOM), leakage detection equipment, TDR, OTDR, and other related test equipment.
  • Knowledge of rules and regulations impacting telecommunications systems including FCC, NEC, NESC, OSHA, and DOT.
  • Valid driver's license of the state of employment.
  • Ability to work a variable schedule and respond to service interruptions during regular business hours, shift work, or when on-call.
  • Experience in telecommunications or related field.
  • Familiarity with electronic test equipment and telecommunications regulations.
