About The Position

Qualis LLC is seeking an experienced System Safety Engineer to support the STRIKE/Advanced Fires Project Office in Redstone Arsenal, AL. The selected candidate will identify, analyze, and control hazards across the weapon system lifecycle to prevent injury or equipment damage, ensuring compliance with DoD and Army standards, specifically MIL-STD-882E. This position will perform risk assessments, develop safety requirements, and evaluate hardware supporting PM SHIELD portfolio. It requires the application of: advanced mathematical techniques, professional engineering principles, methods, and techniques; safety related elements of the physical sciences, ergonomics, and safety principles, standars, practices, and analytical techniques.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or equivalent degree from an ABET-accredited university.
• 15 year's experience on large complex Dod systems.
• Possess Secret security clearance

Nice To Haves

• Familiarity with AR 385-10, AR 385-16, AR 770-3, and AMCOM 385-17
• Knowledge of Army Safety Board processes and preparation
• Experience conducting hazard analyses (PHA, FHA, SHA, SSHA, O&SHA, EHA, HHA, FTA, FMEA)
• Proficiency with safety tools and databases (e.g., hazard tracking systems, model-based systems engineering, requirement databases)
• Demonstrated experience effectively leading a team of engineers
• Demonstrated experience accurately estimating the engineering effort (i.e. hours) associated with System Safety Engineering tasks
• Understanding of the DoD acquisition processes and methods
• Experience supporting one or more DoD programs

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with design, test, and integration IPTs to embed safety requirements into system architecture and operational concepts.
• Interface with Army safety boards, review panels, and Weapon Safety Working Groups
• Develop and implement safety requirements to eliminate or mitigate risks associated with hardware, software, or human error.
• Advise on system safety requirements based on historical failure data, software failure analysis, and failure mode analysis of such factors as fatigue, stability, and stress
• Conduct Functional Hazard Analysis (FHA), System Safety Hazard Analysis (SSHA), and Fault Tree Analysis (FTA) to identify risk
• Review design, participate in software safety testing, and validate safety measures at test sites.
• Support Safety Release processes for test events, including live-fire and flight testing
• Lead root cause analysis and corrective action planning for safety-related incidents or anomalies.
• Support development of System Safety Program Plans (SSPP), Safety Verification Plans, and Safety Assessment Reports (SAR)
