About The Position

The System Safety Engineer Leader will be the corporate process owner for the occupational safety, environmental, health, medical, and system safety processes and programs.  This position will also be responsible for the occupational safety, environmental, health, medical, and system safety processes and programs for ULA Production Operations.  Responsibilities include on-going management, program improvement, regulatory compliance, and contract compliance for all ULA sites. Successful candidates will demonstrate their ability to proactively manage EHS, Medical and System Safety processes, such that hazards are eliminated before injuries or accidents occur. Assignments are self-initiated and the successful candidate will determine and pursue courses of action necessary to obtain desired results. This individual works through consultation, collaboration, and agreement with other organizations within and external to ULA. This leader serves as a member of the Safety and Quality Leadership Team and provide support to the Sr. Director of Safety, Quality and Mission Success.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or related technical field from an accredited college or university
  • At least 8 years applicable experience in the associated technical areas of EHS and/or System Safety
  • Plus a minimum of 4 years of management or leadership experience in leading teams of exempt employees or other leaders
  • Demonstrated communication skills with executive leadership teams; achieve cross-functional alignment
  • Expertise in creating strategy, vision, and executable plans to eliminate hazards through design, and reduce or eliminate occupational injuries, illnesses, deaths, liability and regulatory risk
  • Experience working with local, state and federal regulations with demonstrated ability to read and interpret regulations (such as:  AS9100, Mil-Std-882, OSHA, EPA, FAA and NASA standards)
  • Experience utilizing structured causal analysis approaches to eliminate or reduce safety and/or environmental hazards
  • Must be able to travel as required (around 25%)
  • Must be able to work overtime and variable shifts as needed.
  • Ability to work in indoor and outdoor environments, occasionally at heights, on stairways, or around hazardous materials.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain an active DoD Secret clearance is required.  US Citizenship is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience leading EHS, and System Safety professionals in the execution of government contract requirements
  • Bachelor of Science in EHS, System Safety or Industrial Engineering fields
  • Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) and/or Certified Safety Professional (CSP) certification
  • Certified 6-sigma Black Belt, Master Black Belt
  • Experience leading the development of corporate policies and procedures
  • Experience consolidating and developing Safety and Quality compliant training materials into single standards
  • Auditing experience
  • Models ethical integrity with respect to people, process, and product
  • Seeks opportunities to promote/improve people, process and product
  • Shows resiliency when presented with difficult challenges

Responsibilities

  • Provide day-to-day leadership and direction to ULA Safety and Medical personnel.
  • Align team efforts with ULA’s mission to maintain 100% mission success, ensure personnel and hardware safety, and achieve critical milestones on schedule.
  • Enforce compliance with company programs, policies, procedures, and contractual requirements; manage disciplinary actions when necessary.
  • Lead ULA environmental management programs, ensuring full compliance with applicable local, county, state, and federal regulations.
  • Foster collaboration across the ULA enterprise to meet program goals and execute strategic initiatives.
  • Promote innovation and continuous improvement using methodologies such as Six Sigma, Kaizen, Value Stream Mapping, and Lean Manufacturing.
  • Exemplify ULA’s core values and demonstrate a strong commitment to mission success.
