We anticipate the need for one or more Apprentice System Relay Specialist(s) at our Maple Grove Service Center in Maple Grove, Minnesota. The starting rate of pay for this position is $42.44 hourly (2025 rate). This position will be posted for 10 working days from March 27, 2026, to April 10, 2026. Summary The duties of this position include, but are not limited to: installing, maintaining, repairing, testing, inspecting, and calibrating control and relaying systems for plant (nuclear, non-nuclear) and substation equipment throughout Xcel Energy and customer facilities. Physical demands include but are not limited to lifting, carrying, climbing, handling, kneeling, and reaching. Requirements

  • High school education or equivalent.
  • Must possess a valid Minnesota driver’s license & be able to operate NSP vehicles.
  • Thorough knowledge of electrical/electronic theory.
  • Must possess strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be willing and able to work considerable amounts of overtime and out-of-town work.
  • Ability to learn computer software including but not limited to SAP, Work Manager and Switch Plan.
  • Required to work outdoors and in power plant environments (including nuclear plants).
  • Participate in random drug testing and annual nuclear requalification training and testing is required.
  • Must meet NRC screening requirements necessary for the job to be consistent with the journeyman posting.
  • Must pass entrance screening exam in electrical/electronic theory.
  • The exam will include AC and DC theory (resistive, capacitive & inductive circuits), transistor theory and application, linear amplifiers, integrated circuits, and digital logic.
  • The exam will be held at the Maple Grove Service Center Auditorium on or around the first week of June 2026. Candidates will be notified of actual testing date.
