The System Operator I position at Arizona G&T Cooperatives involves real-time operations of Bulk Power Systems (BPS) to ensure the stable and reliable operation of the Bulk Electric System (BES). The role requires acquiring necessary skills and knowledge to perform actions during both normal and emergency conditions, adhering to compliance with NERC/WECC Reliability Standards.

  • Acquire the knowledge to take prompt and appropriate actions to maintain strict compliance with NERC/WECC Reliability Standards for system operations.
  • Learn all AEPCO operating procedures & reliability-related tasks under normal and emergency conditions.
  • Learn normal transmission and distribution switching.
  • Monitor the power system for voltage control, power factor, and equipment loading.
  • Maintain system frequency and system stability.
  • Respond to Reserve Sharing Group (RSG) emergencies according to the RSG policies and procedures.
  • Monitor, assess, and approve E-tags within the OATI application associated with the AEPCO transmission system.
  • Become familiar with AEPCO and Metropolitan Water District transmission systems and their interties with neighboring systems.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Bachelor's Degree in applicable field is preferred.
  • Up to five years of prior work experience in electric utility operations, technical profession in the utilities field, or related engineering position.
  • High level of critical thinking skills.
  • High level of multi-tasking abilities.
  • Above average mathematical aptitude.
  • High level of communication skills including 3-part communications.
  • Reasonable mechanical aptitude.
  • Ability to pass a 7-Year background check.
  • Salary range of $6,318.00 - $10,720.34 monthly, dependent on education and experience.
