We anticipate the need for one or more System Field Technician Apprentice(s) to be located at our Maple Grove Service Center in Maple Grove, Minnesota. The starting rate of pay for this position is $38.43 hourly (2025 rate). This position will be posted for 10 Working days from February 24, 2026, to March 9, 2026. Summary The applicant will be required to maintain Substation and Generating plant equipment in the five-state area. The four-year apprenticeship will require Apprentice System Field Technician(s) to attain the necessary skills and qualifications to meet the Journeyman classification position. He/She will be required to have knowledge of all test equipment used by the SFT's today and in the future. Physical demands include but are not limited to lifting, carrying, climbing, handling, kneeling, and reaching. This position involves both mechanical and electrical skills. Note: A condition of employment will be successfully obtaining and maintaining General Security Clearance and a Nuclear Security Clearance for unescorted access to Xcel Energy nuclear plants including successful completion of nuclear General Access Training (GAT) and the nuclear security screening process. Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Computer experience & proficiency
  • Must be totally committed to safety, quality work, and customer service
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
  • Proper Color perception
  • Obtain a Class A CDL driver's license with Hazardous and Tank Endorsements
  • Complete 4 years apprenticeship and training
  • Complete SFT Check off system
  • Will be required to work overtime and out of town assignments
  • Ability to work independently and with limited supervision
  • Must be comfortable working at heights up to 75 ft. and in confined spaces
  • Must work well with others and exhibit teamwork attitude
  • Must meet DOT and Nuclear requirements
