About The Position

PeopleTec is currently seeking a Systems Engineer to support our Huntsville, AL location. We are seeking a skilled and motivated Systems Engineer to support U.S. Army directed energy programs, with an emphasis on the mechanical design, integration, and testing of advanced weapon systems. In this role, you will work as part of a multidisciplinary team to help transition prototype systems into fielded, mission-ready capabilities. This position is ideal for a systems engineer with experience in defense programs who enjoys solving complex integration challenges involving thermal management, structural design, mobility constraints, and ruggedization for military use. This work will be primarily performed on-site at a secure facility. Participation in field tests may involve outdoor work in operational environments.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in mechanical design, systems integration, or platform engineering, preferably within defense or aerospace sectors.
  • Proficiency with mechanical CAD and analysis tools (e.g., SolidWorks, Creo, ANSYS, or similar).
  • Experience supporting DoD or military programs, ideally with vehicle or weapon system integration.
  • Familiarity with thermal and structural modeling, and designing for rugged environments (shock, vibration, dust, temperature extremes).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; able to create technical documentation and present to engineering and program leadership.
  • Proactive and detail-oriented; capable of managing tasks independently and contributing to team-based efforts.
  • Flexible and adaptable to changing program needs in high-velocity environments.
  • Must have a current driver's license.
  • Travel: 10-25%
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen
  • Active U.S. DoD Secret clearance (or ability to obtain) is required to perform this work.
  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related field.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with U.S. Army acquisition or R&D organizations (e.g., RCCTO, DEVCOM, PEO Missiles & Space).
  • Background in field testing or hands-on mechanical integration of complex systems.
  • Understanding of platform integration constraints (e.g., size, weight, power, cooling—SWaP-C) for mobile systems.
  • Knowledge of defense acquisition lifecycle, design-to-cost principles, and technical readiness assessment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide engineering support for the design, integration, and sustainment of directed energy weapon systems and their supporting platforms.
  • Lead or support development of system requirements, interface specifications, and design documentation in collaboration with electrical, software, and systems engineering teams.
  • Perform thermal and structural analysis (e.g., FEA, CFD) to ensure system survivability and performance in operational environments.
  • Support design and integration of mounting structures, enclosures, cooling systems, and vibration/shock isolation for vehicle-mounted systems.
  • Participate in trade studies and design reviews, with a focus on weight, space, cooling, and manufacturability.
  • Assist in system-level integration and field testing, including test planning, setup, execution, and analysis of mechanical performance.
  • Ensure mechanical designs comply with DoD safety, environmental, and airworthiness standards, as well as military platform integration constraints.
  • Contribute to acquisition documentation and technical briefings to government stakeholders.
