About The Position

The System Engineer / System Administrator will be responsible for the operations and maintenance (O&M) of an isolated infrastructure consisting of Linux servers and workstations, network attached storage, and networking hardware. The ideal candidate will possess a broad skillset and be capable of adapting and learning new technologies for continuous improvement and evaluation of system optimization opportunities. The System Engineer / System Administrator will work as part of a diverse work team, interfacing directly with customers, end users, software developers, and other project stakeholders daily.

Nice To Haves

  • Demonstrated experience installing, maintaining, and updating RedHat/Rocky Linux distributions on servers and workstations.
  • Working knowledge of networking, basic routing, and network device monitoring and maintenance.
  • Ability to perform data transfer operations between isolated systems and networks.
  • Familiarity with information security principles and best practices to safeguard information systems.
  • Knowledge of Ceph storage cluster administration (or ability to learn within 30-60 days).
  • Understanding of scalable infrastructure and applications to accommodate a wide range of use cases and data processing capabilities.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent communication skills for responding to service desk tickets and requests.
  • Effective time management and organizational skills.
  • Detail-oriented thinking with the ability to see the big picture.
  • Growth mindset and capability for interdisciplinary collaboration and teamwork.

Responsibilities

  • Linux server and workstation maintenance, updates, and administration.
  • Monitor/maintain network appliances and devices to sustain existing dataflows, connections, and links.
  • Monitor/triage/address service desk application and respond to user requests.
  • Work as part of an integrated product team comprised of multiple vendors.
  • Manage a multi-rack infrastructure with geographically separated points of presence.
  • Evaluate system performance and make recommendations for optimization.
  • Assist program team with configuration management and logistics related to the information system architecture.
  • Help plan and execute phased hardware recapitalization to promote extended service and support of the system and network.
