Job Overview: JTEKT’s North American System Engineering Group, located at our Plymouth, Michigan Technical Center, is seeking a highly skilled and motivated engineer to expand our engineering and vehicle analysis capabilities. The position requires a balance of fundamental engineering skills, hands-on vehicle work, and analytical problem solving in a collaborative multi-discipline global team. You will have a direct role in crafting the vehicle’s steering “personality.” Job Expectations: You will be responsible for the developmental activities associated with the calibration and validation of electric power steering actuators in vehicle, through simulation, as well as in laboratory settings.

Requirements

  • This position requires a minimum of Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license. Experience in performance or advanced driver training preferred.
  • 5+ years of professional experience in related areas of vehicle development or stability and system control.
  • Very proficient computer skills with ability to learn multiple advanced control software packages.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication, and presentation skills.
  • High degree of motivation and initiative, with ability to make decisions. Ability to work independently or collaborate on a team.
  • Good planning and organizational skills required to handle multiple project assignments concurrently.
  • Team oriented, patient, positive attitude, and trainable/strong desire to learn.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for vehicle level test specifications, procedures, instrumentation, and simulations, ensuring fulfillment of all IATF audit requirements.
  • Work directly with various automotive partners to ensure all steering objective and subjective metrics are met.
  • Analyze test data, evaluation feedback, and validation results to provide guidance for success.
  • Participate in technical activities associated with system/part development; aid in systematic problem solving; communicate and collaborate with cross functional team members. Late night or early morning communication will be required with global colleagues.
  • Participate in benchmarking activities to gain insight into competitor products, market trends, and product opportunities.
  • Office/lab attendance required dependent on needs of the project.
  • Responsibilities performed in a technical facility with labs, testing equipment, and areas of a traditional office environment.
  • Travel to customer locations, specifically test tracks, domestic and international.
