About The Position

The System Director, Safety & Emergency Management shall be responsible for all aspects of the Environment of Care and Emergency Management programs. The Director shall manage all aspects of the Safety and Environment of Care Program to ensure compliance with CMS, TJC, ADA, FDA, OSHA, DOT, NFPA and other standards and regulations as appropriate. This individual shall serve as the System Safety Officer for the Baptist Health System, intervening whenever conditions pose immediate threat to life and property. Additionally, the Director shall be responsible for all compliance activities for accreditation purposes related to Environment of Care (EC), Emergency Management (EM), and other regulatory agencies as appropriate. This individual shall assess, monitor, and direct education and training activities to ensure regulatory requirements. The Director will monitor and report regulatory standard changes to leadership and others as appropriate. The Director will direct policy reviews and development as required. The Director shall coordinate development and preparation of management plans, annual reviews, and related documentation and submit to the various committee and boards for approval.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field required
  • Minimum 5 years of safety experience preferred
  • Promote a positive safety culture by fostering open communication, encouraging employee involvement and recognizing achievements in health and safety.
  • Provide strategic leadership and direction in all matters related to environmental, health and safety.
  • Develop and implement effective health and safety policies, procedures and programs to ensure compliance with regulations and industry standards.
  • Conduct thorough risk assessments and inspections of the workplace to identify potential hazards and implement appropriate control measures.
  • Investigate accidents, injuries, and occupational diseases to determine their root cause and develop preventive measures.
  • Establish and deliver comprehensive training programs on health and safety topics, ensuring employees are knowledgeable about relevant laws, regulations, and safe work practices.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of health and safety programs, implementing action items for continuous improvement.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively to all levels of hospital leadership and with regulatory agency representatives as appropriate.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • Certified Healthcare Safety Professional (CHSP), Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) preferred.
