About The Position

The System Director, Revenue Cycle Support provides strategic and operational leadership over key revenue cycle support functions including Analytics, Compliance, Revenue Integrity, and Vendor Management across the healthcare system. This role is responsible for ensuring accurate charge capture, regulatory compliance, data-driven performance monitoring, and effective oversight of external vendors supporting revenue cycle operations. The System Director partners closely with Corporate Compliance, Patient Accounting, Patient Access, Health Information Management (HIM), and IT teams to ensure integrated workflows, robust internal controls, and proactive identification of revenue cycle risks and opportunities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Healthcare, or related field.
  • Minimum 10 years leadership experience in healthcare revenue cycle operations or support functions.
  • Experience with Epic Revenue Cycle modules including Charge Router, Resolute Hospital Billing/Professional Billing (HB/PB), Charge Description Master (CDM) tools, Reporting Workbench, Clarity, or SlicerDicer.
  • Prior oversight of third-party vendors supporting revenue cycle (e.g., bad debt, early out, auditing, or clearinghouse services).
  • Deep understanding of Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) regulations, payer billing guidelines, and coding compliance.
  • Knowledge of revenue cycle operations.
  • Advanced proficiency in Epic reporting and revenue integrity tools.
  • Strong leadership, collaboration, and project management skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with ability to present to executive audiences.
  • Strong ability to synthesize complex data into actionable insights for operational and strategic decisions.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple priorities with competing deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Leads system-wide revenue cycle reporting and analytics using Epic tools (Clarity, SlicerDicer, Reporting Workbench).
  • Develops dashboards and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for departments, executive leadership and front-line staff.
  • Partners with IT and Epic analysts to ensure data integrity, timely reporting, and visualization of performance metrics.
  • Drives actionable insights into revenue leakage, denials, productivity, and reimbursement trends.
  • Maintains and leads the revenue cycle compliance program, ensuring alignment with federal and state regulations, internal policies, and payer requirements.
  • Coordinates internal and external audits, proactively identifies areas of risk, and develops corrective action plans.
  • Educates staff and leaders on evolving regulatory requirements, billing compliance risks, and internal controls.
  • Ensures billing, charge, and documentation practices support compliant reimbursement across all services.
  • Oversees charge capture reviews, pricing integrity, and Charge Description Master (CDM) governance.
  • Supports clinical departments in optimizing documentation and charge workflows within Epic.
  • Collaborates with departments to reduce late charges, improve coding accuracy, and standardize charge practices.
  • Identifies opportunities for process improvement, automation, and revenue optimization.
  • Leads vendor selection, contracting, and performance management for revenue cycle partners including early out, bad debt, collections, audits, and billing services.
  • Develops Service-Level Agreements (SLAs) and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for all revenue cycle vendors.
  • Conducts regular business reviews, performance audits, and ensures contractual compliance and accountability.
  • Serves as point of escalation and relationship manager for all external revenue cycle support vendors.
  • Serves as a trusted advisor to revenue cycle and operational leaders on matters of compliance, performance, and integrity.
  • Leads and supports Epic optimization projects, upgrade testing, and system-wide initiatives related to analytics and charge capture.
  • Collaborates with Finance, HIM, Legal, and Quality to ensure enterprise-wide alignment on risk and revenue management.
  • Prepares and manages operating budgets for assigned areas.
  • Evaluates cost-effectiveness of systems, tools, and vendor partnerships; identifies opportunities to reduce administrative overhead or leakage.
