About The Position

The System Director of Operational Strategy and Execution serves as a system-level leader responsible for shaping, integrating, and advancing enterprise operational strategy across Fairview. The role leads high complexity, cross functional initiatives sponsored by the COO/CMO/CNE Triad and acts as a strategic advisor to senior executives. This position drives systemwide operational and strategic integration, designs enterprise frameworks, and ensures alignment of clinical, operational, and financial priorities. This position blends strategy development, cross-functional integration, financial acumen, performance analytics, and stakeholder engagement — with increasing exposure to system leadership and operational decision-making across care settings. This leader is responsible for partnering closely with senior executives across the health system to develop, define and execute against high-priority, dynamic strategic and operational plans. The ideal candidate is a strategic-minded, detail-oriented, and highly self-motivated professional with strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills—someone who thrives in a fast-paced, mission-driven and highly matrixed healthcare environment. The individual will be expected to provide strategic leadership, operational management, and mentorship across the organization. Requirements

  • B.S./B.A. in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, Public Health, or related field required.
  • 15 years in healthcare operations, healthcare finance, process improvement, portfolio management, strategy, or consulting.
  • 5 years Demonstrated progressive experience in leadership roles and people management with a minimum of 5 years in a leadership role.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead system-level, multi-year strategic transitions
  • Experience advising or partnering with C-suite executives
  • Executive-level communication
  • System integration experience
  • Experience influencing across complex, matrixed structures
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and timelines in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office tools (especially PowerPoint and Excel); experience with project tracking tools (e.g., Smartsheet, Monday.com, or similar) is a plus.
  • Familiarity with healthcare systems or academic medical centers
  • Comfortable working both independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities

  • Operational Strategy Planning & Alignment: Serve as a strategic thought partner to executive leaders, informing enterprise decision-making with integrated operational, clinical, and financial insights. Lead development, refinement, and alignment of system strategic priorities with operational plans. Drive operational planning processes (annual and long-range), including leadership of strategic planning sessions and development of insights for executive leadership. Translate operational strategy into meaningful objectives, KPIs, success measures, and implementation roadmaps. Leverages advanced financial acumen to shape operational and strategic decisions.
  • Operational Execution & System Integration Leadership: Provide executive-level leadership, direction, and oversight of high complexity cross functional initiatives, ensuring aligned execution across system stakeholders. Lead enterprise operating model transitions that are high complexity, high risk with a broad scope. Establish system governance structures, develop enterprise roadmaps, drive executive decision-making, oversee system-level integration of priority initiatives. Coordinate with hospital and clinic operational leaders to ensure consistent execution and adoption. Lead enterprise initiatives spanning operational redesign, capacity enhancement, care model evolution, and system performance optimization.
  • Strategic Thinking & Synthesis: Ability to connect enterprise strategy to operational details and future goals. Comfort with ambiguity, complexity, and multi-stakeholder tradeoffs. Builds deep fluency across operational, clinical, and strategic domains. Serves as system integrator across finance, operations, clinical leadership, and strategy.
  • Performance Analytics & Insight: Partner with performance improvement, finance, strategy, market and data analytics teams to interpret operational and financial performance trends. Build and present communications that quantify progress against strategic objectives. Drive diagnostic analysis to identify root causes and partnership opportunities to improve key metrics.
  • Stakeholder Engagement & Influence: Develop trusted partnerships with senior operations leaders, clinical leaders, and corporate functions. Represent the Office of the COO in governance forums and cross-enterprise workgroups. Influence without authority — facilitating consensus and driving coordination. Clear, concise communicator capable of elevating discussions to executive audiences. Builds trust with operations leaders; navigates politics and conflict professionally.
  • Leadership Growth & System Exposure: Prepare and deliver presentations to senior leadership including the COO and executive triad. Participate in senior strategy sessions and governance outcomes reviews. Coach, mentor, and elevate system leaders and managers involved in strategic operational work. Acts as a catalyst for change and coach to others. Demonstrates curiosity, adaptability, and commitment to continuous personal development.
