About The Position

The System Control Technician I provides routine service restoration, after-hours customer service, monitors SSEMC’s AMR system, monitors distribution system activities, fire protection, camera, and security systems by performing the following duties.

Requirements

  • Ability to enter and retrieve data from computer required
  • Training and/or experience in Windows operating system required
  • Training and/or experience in Excel, Word, Access, and Power Point
  • Overtime required
  • Irregular hours required
  • Ability to work without direct supervision
  • Must be readily available during storm situations to assist as needed according to the Extreme Storm Plan in place.
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of system geography preferred
  • Related experience and/or training preferred

Responsibilities

  • Monitors SSEMC’s Outage Management system (OMS) and SCADA systems.
  • Receives consumer calls on outages or other hazardous conditions and determines the severity of outage or other conditions and dispatches appropriate manpower and/or equipment.
  • Notifies supervisor and/or appropriate personnel of major system outages, emergencies or any other situation that would require immediate attention.
  • During non-operation hours notifies and takes direction from E&O supervisor and/or appropriate personnel on system outages, emergencies, or any other situation that would require immediate attention.
  • Keeps abreast of any conditions or major line changes that affect the normal feed of existing circuits.
  • Monitors the GA811 system for emergency locate tickets.
  • Validates information using SSEMC’s customer files and the engineering mapping system and dispatches as required.
  • Communicates directly with consumers and utilizes the Customer Information System (CIS) for meter resets, tree orders, s/l repairs, trouble calls and outages during non-operating hours.
  • Monitors lightning detection system and/or weather systems and reports any activities that could affect normal system operations.
  • Monitors and ensures that the electronic security system is activated during non-operating hours.
  • Monitors and reports suspicious activities detected on the motion camera surveillance system.
  • Monitors, reports and responds according to trouble or alarms of the fire protection system.
  • Stays familiar with procedure for handling "mayday" calls.
  • Receives and transmits instructions and/or information over the 2-way radio and phone system.
