About The Position

Peraton is seeking a System Administrator (Journeyman) to support the MODES III program supporting Military Community and Family Policy (MC&FP). In this role, the selected candidate will provide day to day administration, configuration, and operational support for the program systems and cloud infrastructure (AWS GovCloud and on prem resources), ensuring availability, security, and continuity for application, database, and platform services. This position is remote and requires an active Top Secret clearance. JOB DESCRIPTION Provide day to day administration, configuration, and operational support for MODES III systems and cloud infrastructure (AWS GovCloud and on prem resources), ensuring availability, security, and continuity for application, database, and platform services. Manage system provisioning and configuration: deploy and configure virtual servers, storage, networking, and platform components using approved IaC templates and automation tools; enforce baseline hardening and STIG/SRG controls. Operate and monitor environments: maintain health checks, apply patches/updates, monitor logs/metrics (CloudWatch/Splunk/ELK), respond to alerts, and escalate incidents to Tier 2/3 engineering per incident procedures. Support application deployments and releases: coordinate with DevOps/DevSecOps teams for build/promote activities, validate deployment checklists, perform smoke tests, and execute runbook steps for routine and rollback actions. Maintain backup, recovery, and COOP readiness: run and verify backups, assist in automated recovery orchestration, participate in DR/COOP exercises, and update recovery runbooks and validation evidence. Implement access & account management: manage IAM/accounts, role assignments, service accounts, and access requests in accordance with least privilege and Government access policies; support account provisioning workflows. Perform routine system hardening & compliance tasks: apply security patches, implement configuration baselines, support vulnerability scanning, and help remediate findings (ACAS/NESSUS) in coordination with CCM and security teams. Maintain operational documentation and change records: update runbooks, standard operating procedures, CMDB entries, and program task tracking task updates; support change control and CCB submissions for system changes. Familiar with: Active Directory/Azure AD, Microsoft Entra ID, Group Policy, SCCM/WSUS, VMware vSphere/Nutanix, Hyper-V, Linux administration (RHEL/CentOS/Ubuntu), AWS Systems Manager, Terraform/Ansible, IAM/KMS, DNS/DHCP, LDAP, Network (BGP/OSPF/VLAN/SD‑WAN), SAN/NAS, Backup/DR (Veeam/N2WS), Splunk/ELK, STIG/SCAP/ACAS, PKI/CAC management, automation scripting (PowerShell/Python/Bash).

Requirements

  • Active Top Secret clearance required.
  • Experience / Education: 5 years relevant experience with BS/BA degree or 3 years with MS/MA or 1 year with PhD or 9 years w/o degree or 7 years with AS/AA
  • Certifications: This role requires a demonstration of capability within the Cyberspace IT workforce. Successful applicants must satisfy Foundational Qualification standards via an approved industry certification (e.g., A+ or Network+) or documented equivalent military/educational training as defined in the DoD 8140 Qualification Matrix.

Nice To Haves

  • AWS certifications (e.g., AWS Solutions Architect, AWS Security Specialty) or equivalent cloud certifications.
  • Familiarity with NIST RMF, ATO processes, and DoD security compliance frameworks.
  • Experience with Windows Server and Linux administration in cloud-hosted environments.
  • CompTIA Security+
  • Worklocation: Remote with the ability to travel to the NCR when required
