The System Administrator III provides enterprise systems administration and operational support for DOI/IA servers, infrastructure, and application environments. This role supports Windows and Linux systems in a highly virtualized environment and performs installation, configuration, patching, monitoring, backup and recovery, troubleshooting, and user support and training activities. The position also supports project-based work involving upgrades, migrations, testing, implementation, and process improvement.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree, technical certificate, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 3+ years of related technical experience supporting server or data center environments.
  • Experience supporting Microsoft and Linux operating systems.
  • Working knowledge of VMware and virtualized environments.
  • Experience with patching, backup and recovery, performance tuning, and hardware/software upgrades.
  • Experience providing Tier II/III support.
  • Background check with the ability to obtain Public Trust
  • Ability to develop technical documentation.
  • Ability to work independently and support technical projects.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of enterprise systems administration practices.
  • Knowledge of Windows Server, Linux, and VMware administration.
  • Basic knowledge of PowerShell, Visual Basic, .NET, C#, or similar scripting/programming languages.
  • Knowledge of patching, monitoring, backup and recovery, and access controls.
  • Skill in troubleshooting infrastructure and server issues.
  • Skill in preparing technical documentation.
  • Ability to manage assigned tasks, support projects, and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with users, technical staff, and management.
  • Has excellent interdepartmental communication skills (written, verbal, presentations).
  • Ability to work without guidance and the ability to resolve highly complex problems.
  • Ability to lead projects
  • Ability to support on call 24/7/365.
  • Ability to occasionally travel to sites where the IT systems are located

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, IIS, and file services.
  • Familiarity with enterprise Microsoft administration tools.
  • Experience with data center physical security tools or DCIM tools.
  • Experience supporting disaster recovery or continuity activities.
  • Experience supporting project-based infrastructure initiatives.
  • Relevant Microsoft, Linux, VMware, or systems administration certifications.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain required government suitability or clearance, if applicable.

Responsibilities

  • Administer Windows and Linux servers in an enterprise environment.
  • Support VMware-based virtual infrastructure and related enterprise services.
  • Perform system installation, configuration, patching, maintenance, and upgrades.
  • Monitor systems, applications, and security logs and respond to operational issues.
  • Support backup, restore, replication, and recovery activities.
  • Configure and support Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, IIS, file shares, and ACLs.
  • Provide Tier II/III support for infrastructure and system issues.
  • Support user account administration and authorized access changes.
  • Maintain system documentation, procedures, and configuration records.
  • Follow change control, configuration management, and operational procedures.
  • Support project-based tasks involving modernization, migration, implementation, testing, and operational improvement.
  • Shall administer Windows Network in an enterprise environment along with applicable Linux servers/devices; includes necessary patching
  • Ensure that all system administration activities follow established OIT guidelines and procedures.
  • Responsible for the security and administrative controls of service(s) and/or system(s).
  • Assist with agency-specific risk assessments to identify, categorize, prioritize, and manage HVAs.
  • Provide broad-based user support for end users, including troubleshooting, systems support, data management, collection, integration, and training.
  • Other duties as assigned.
