Requirements

  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be substituted for one another.
  • Candidates should have an associate’s degree in information technology, relevant certifications, or a comparable level of hands-on experience in systems, networks, storage, or wireless broadband.
  • A valid KS/MO driver’s license is required.

Responsibilities

  • Performs advanced system administration and operational support for public safety technology systems including mobile data terminals (MDTs), broadband vehicle routers, fleet and body-worn camera systems, digital evidence management platforms, video surveillance, door access control systems, networks, and workstation environments.
  • Monitors system logs, alerts, and performance metrics to identify security threats, service interruptions, and capacity issues; performs system tuning, capacity planning, and resource optimization; maintains accurate inventory and lifecycle tracking of technology assets.
  • Leads and completes technical assignments involving incident resolution, system enhancements, imaging, upgrades, and configuration changes for mission-critical law enforcement applications and infrastructure.
  • Ensures high system availability and reliability while supporting growth in system usage, expanded operational capabilities, and integration with public safety platforms; monitors systems to ensure compliance with agency standards, security requirements, and regulatory policies.
  • Provides end-user technical support for sworn officers and department staff by responding to service requests, troubleshooting hardware and software issues, and prioritizing incidents based on operational impact.
  • Installs, configures, and maintains computer systems, mobile computing equipment, vehicle technology, peripheral devices, and specialized law enforcement applications.
  • Administers user access and identity management for agency systems, including creating and maintaining user accounts, assigning and modifying role-based security permissions, and ensuring appropriate access to data, applications, and digital evidence systems in accordance with departmental security policies and auditing requirements.
  • Coordinates with vendors, contractors, and external support teams to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues affecting public safety technology systems.
  • Plans, tests, and implements system upgrades, patches, firmware updates, and new releases using established change management processes to maintain system stability, security, and configuration control; develops project plans and schedules for system deployments, upgrades, and technology refresh initiatives.
  • Assists in the development and maintenance of operational procedures, technical documentation, and support processes for department technology systems.
  • Contributes to infrastructure standards and best practices while providing subject matter expertise for hardware, software platforms, mobile technologies, and shared services that support law enforcement operations and digital evidence management.
  • Provide on-call critical system support outside of regular business hours, ensuring rapid response to outages or high-priority incidents, and maintain availability to report to work as needed during inclement weather conditions to support business continuity.
