About The Position

The System Admin I monitors system hardware, network, and infrastructure software performance, solves problems, and suggests improvements. This position typically also manages authorized access to system resources. Responsibilities include providing advice and assistance to users, prioritizing workflow, completing operational tasks, supporting security measures, developing capabilities, understanding relevant technology, providing initial fault isolation, and contributing to process improvements. The role involves using performance management systems, knowledge management systems, and supporting day-to-day infrastructure and networks.

Requirements

  • Monitors, diagnoses and fixes problems with technology products.
  • Identifies, diagnoses and resolves technical problems in line with prescribed solution options.
  • Designs, executes and reports on systems/service tests to ensure that an application functions as specified in the requirements.
  • Reviews and evaluates recommendations and requirements and to develop appropriate plans or deliver actions required.
  • Installs, sets up, configures, and manages software and environments.
  • Sets up and maintains operating systems.
  • Maintains systems/services and information security, integrity, compliance and continuity.
  • Proficiently uses and troubleshoots a wide range of IT hardware, software, and network systems to ensure optimal performance and user experience.
  • Determines and analyzes trends from data that is collected to assist in compiling reports that will help in decision-making.
  • Proficiently navigates and manages cloud-based infrastructure, including virtual machines, networks, storage, and services.
  • Understands, deploys, and manages cloud-based infrastructure and services.
  • Shifts into and out of a mental mindset associated with assessing the facts and circumstances of the current situation and/or environment, and makes the appropriate/innovative adjustments to thinking and work habits to thrive in any scenario.
  • Associate's Degree or equivalent technical training/certification.
  • Sound experience and understanding of straightforward procedures or systems (7 to 12 months).

Responsibilities

  • Monitor system hardware, network, and infrastructure software performance, solve problems, and suggest improvements.
  • Manage authorized access to system resources.
  • Provide advice and assistance to users to resolve basic queries and ensure the applications/website capabilities are well understood by the business.
  • May manage a help-desk team.
  • Prioritize own workflow and ensure work is completed to the required standards of productivity, quality, and timeliness.
  • Use performance management systems to improve personal performance.
  • Complete operational tasks, data management, incident logging, reporting, systems monitoring, systems testing, and disaster recovery to support the day-to-day infrastructure and networks.
  • Support implementation of required security measures, such as firewalls or message encryption, monitoring performance to notify security experts of any problems.
  • Develop own capabilities by participating in assessment and development planning activities as well as formal and informal training and coaching.
  • Develop and maintain an understanding of relevant technology, external regulation, and industry best practices through ongoing education, attending conferences, and reading specialist media.
  • Provide initial fault isolation and support in proposing resolution for approval by more senior colleagues to limit and address issues promptly.
  • Use the knowledge management system to access specific information.
  • Contribute to reviewing existing tasks in own area of work, and collect ideas for improvement of others.
