About The Position

SGA provides a wide range of social services in some of Chicago's most challenged and consistently underserved communities and creates long-term and community-wide change. GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION Year-Round Employment (YRE): Provides employment opportunities to youth, ages 16-24, helping them to find permanent career paths, apprenticeships, and educational opportunities. By exposing them to various career opportunities and exploration initiatives, this program aims to help youth achieve their career goals and transition smoothly to the next phase of their career journey within a year. Youth work 37 weeks, including the 6 weeks during summer for One Summer Chicago.

Requirements

  • High School Degree Required
  • Experience working with youth of diverse backgrounds required.
  • One to three years of related experiences or a combination of training, education, and experience is preferred.
  • Sensitivity to cultural diversity is required.
  • Ability to communicate and cooperate with diverse families, various professionals and community groups.
  • Ability to maintain a positive attitude working in a high intensity environment.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of service providers, community events, or the organization.
  • Exercises discretion and independent judgment in executing tasks.
  • Must demonstrate ability to handle emergency and crisis situations.
  • Must be able to take initiative.
  • Must have access to a computer.
  • Competent in Microsoft Office tools and inputting services in an online database.

Nice To Haves

  • Associates in Human Services, Education, Psychology, Social Work or a related field in a plus
  • Knowledge of youth development is a plus
  • Bilingual preferred (Spanish/English).

Responsibilities

  • Must be able to make a 37-week commitment, at least 20 hours per week.
  • Coordinate outreach, recruitment, onboarding and retention of youth participants for program duration.
  • Facilitate recruitment, intake and enrollment activities.
  • Provides administrative support services to SGA partnered worksites working with youth ages 16-24 years old for 37-weeks.
  • Develop and maintain a positive relationship with partner and employers.
  • Communicate effectively and administer the program policies and procedures to youth.
  • Track and follow up with site leads and youth on the completion mandatory forms
  • Track, manage and ensure the accuracy of youth timesheets for payroll approval
  • Enter all youth's attendance/timesheet into City Span system
  • Plan and facilitate weekly job readiness workshops, financial literacy workshops, and work readiness skills assessments, ensuring participants complete required assignments Build strong, positive relationships with youth participants and facilitate team building between participants.
  • Facilitate DFSS Career Development curriculum to help youth transition successfully to future opportunities.
  • Attend mandatory trainings and meetings per request of DFSS, including but not limited to training for City span, Job Readiness curriculum, MCMF, financial literacy curriculum, and trauma workshops and DFSS-designated technology platform.
  • Engages in facilitation of programs, workshops, and events geared toward youth development and education enhancement delivered in person as appropriate.
  • Ensure DFSS and SGA surveys are implemented and completed by the youth & employers.
  • Help prepare and deliver supplies and materials to youth, if needed.
  • Responds in a timely manner to all written correspondence, email and phone calls.
  • Meet program youth timesheet submission, reporting and activity deadlines
  • Attends regular supervision, team meetings and other professional workshops to enhance job skills.
  • Attends mandatory trainings implemented by SGA or funder.
  • Responsible for following up with youth that have inconsistent attendance.
  • Data entry includes but is not limited to youth enrollment and daily youth attendance and activities which is required weekly. components are required in the data system: Work Plan, DFSS Youth Intake Forms completed in hard copy DFSS Youth Enrollment Portal, activity entry and attendance, contractual certification information, outputs, and outcomes.
  • Match youth with employment placement or specialized training program based on their demonstrated interest and skills.
  • Maintain participant files, Bus Card logs, Timesheets and all required DFSS documentation.
  • Ensure 10% of youth will transition to long-term employment, post-secondary or vocational program or military.
  • Implements other services requested by SGA or funder.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
