About The Position

The Environmental Education Naturalist position is responsible for teaching outdoor science and environmental education programs aimed at enhancing students' awareness and appreciation of the environment. The role involves conducting educational programs for various audiences, including school children and adults, and requires a strong background in natural sciences or related fields.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university with major course work in the natural sciences or related field.
  • Experience in interpretation or teaching in an outdoor setting.
  • Experience with wildlife and domestic animal care.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrable organization and self-management skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree with a major in science or environmental education.
  • Two years experience working with children in an outdoor setting.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct outdoor educational programs for school children and adults on various science topics.
  • Conduct programs for the public, including the Toddler Tuesday program.
  • Conduct off-site educational programs at schools, libraries, and nursing homes.
  • Assist with animal care responsibilities.
  • Help develop programs and curriculum.
  • Assist with maintaining and updating teaching equipment and tools.
  • Work extensively with the summer camp program.
  • Help plan and facilitate large, annual special events.
  • Coordinate resources, including volunteers, sponsors, supplies, and materials.
  • Assist with light maintenance of buildings, trails, and habitats.
