Union Tank Car Company is seeking applicants to become a member of our production team at our full-service rail tank car repair shop in Muscatine, Iowa. Union Tank Car Company's regulatory, engineering, and commercial expertise make UTLX the preferred source of railcars and services for many of its customers. Requirements

Must have a high school diploma, GED, or pass a Combined Basic Skills Test
Have experience in machine operation
Must be able to work effectively and efficiently both as a member of a team and independently
Able to follow written and/or verbal instructions with minimal supervision
Ability to read, interpret, and follow documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, and assembly instructions
Safety and quality focused
Willingness to wear required PPE at all times and always work safely.
Must have valid driver’s license
Be available to work any shift, and be dependable and reliable to show up for scheduled work shifts including overtime, as allowed per the union contract
Will have to lift 50 pounds safely and drag blast hose over the full length of railcar
Will perform physical activities that require considerable use of arms and legs and moving the whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials
May work in confined spaces and at heights exceeding 4 ft. off the ground with proper PPE and fall protection
Close mental and visual attention required, coordinating manual dexterity with mental and visual attention for sustained periods of time

Responsibilities

Operates locomotive to transport material and spot rail cars utilizing instructions from a switch list.
Regularly operates locomotive in a congested area and must use considerable caution to prevent damage to rail cars or accidents to employees.
Operates switches and directs flow of cars in rail yard.
Maintains area in a neat and orderly manner and reports work hazards.
