Responsible for the movement and spotting of railcars in a safe and timely manner according to operational needs

Requirements

  • Minimum High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Successful completion (or ability to complete shortly after hiring) of GATX Switching certification.
  • You must be able to walk for extended periods of time (possibly over 8 hours per day)
  • Must be able to stoop for extended periods and routinely move from kneeling to standing positions
  • Must be able to perform overhead work for extended periods
  • Must be able to lift (vertically) up to 85 pounds from the ground surface
  • Must be able to push / pull (horizontally) up to 140 pounds
  • Must be able to climb ladders and perform work at elevated heights
  • Must be able to work in extreme temperature environment

Responsibilities

  • Work with Repair Center Manager, ME, and other keu roles to efficiently move, switch, and spot cars in the plant and/or yard.
  • Work with production to create and execute the plan for movement and placement of cars in the yard and work centers.
  • Maintain switching equipment per preventative maintenance schedules.
  • Assist with plant railcar repair work or other maintenance when necessary.
