About The Position

The Switcher position at FedEx Services involves the movement of trailers to and from the unload/load doors and throughout the yard. The role may also include the physical loading, unloading, and sorting of packages by hand, ensuring safety and efficiency. Essential functions include performing trailer switches, communicating with management for coordination, documenting trailer moves, and conducting pre- and post-trip inspections on switcher equipment. Additionally, Switchers may perform Package Handler functions such as loading and unloading packages, utilizing hand-to-surface methods, and sorting packages based on various criteria.

Requirements

• Must have a valid driver's license and maintain a Department of Transportation (DOT) file.
• Ability to understand and follow instructions regarding work duties and safety methods.
• Ability to discern numbers and information for sorting packages.
• Ability to use basic tools and equipment such as skate wheel rollers and hand-held scanners.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Nice To Haves

• Six months of experience as a package handler or switching/CDL operator preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform trailer switches by hooking and moving parked trailers.
• Communicate with management and/or central control to coordinate trailer movements.
• Document trailer moves using the Yard Management System or switcher cards.
• Conduct pre- and post-trip inspections on switcher equipment.
• Demonstrate effective yard switching safety processes and procedures.
• Utilize hand-to-surface methods for package handling.
• Load and unload packages onto or from delivery vehicles and trailers.
• Lift, carry, push, and pull packages continuously for shifts of two to four hours.
• Sort packages by scanning, reading labels, and verifying information.
