About The Position

Tanner Clinic has an immediate opening for a Switchboard Operator. Essential Job Responsibilities: Answer and direct all incoming calls quickly, accurately, and professionally. Be aware of the daily hours of operation for each provider or physician and support office personnel. Assess and deal with emergent situations, providing a helpful and positive outcome for callers. Use the multi-line phone system, including transferring calls and paging. Take and deliver complete, detailed messages when necessary. Maintain strict personal, patient, and company confidentiality. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Prior health care experience preferred.
  • Exceptional ability to speak and communicate clearly, professionally, and with empathy.
  • Working familiarity with phone and voice mail systems.
  • Working knowledge of computer systems; strong keyboarding skills.
  • Ability to assess and deal with stressful or emergent situations.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and organization services.
  • Knowledge of individual responsibilities to accurately direct callers.
  • Ability to use multi-line phone system, including transferring calls and paging.
  • Adequate hearing to answer phone and speak with patients.
  • Ability to speak clearly and loudly enough to be heard by callers and patients.
  • Elicits appropriate information to route calls to the appropriate person.
  • Prevents, calms, or defuses irate callers and patients by working with them to identify concerns and properly directs calls.
  • Standard office equipment including computers, fax machines, copiers, printers, telephones, etc.
  • Involves sitting approximately 90 percent of the day, walking or standing the remainder.
