About The Position

The Switchboard Operator position at the State of New Hampshire involves operating a centralized switchboard and paging system within a hospital environment. This part-time role requires effective communication skills and the ability to manage calls and inquiries from the public and state employees. The operator will work rotating shifts, primarily from 12:00 PM to 8:00 PM, and is responsible for providing routine information, directing calls, and ensuring workplace safety and quality service.

Requirements

  • Completion of high school, G.E.D. or its equivalent.
  • One year's experience in clerical or receptionist duties, with six months of experience operating a switchboard.

Responsibilities

  • Operates a large switchboard and paging system on an assigned shift.
  • Tracks toll calls and performs some receptionist duties.
  • Provides routine information regarding the work of a division or location of an office or employee.
  • Receives callers from the Health and Human Services '800' number 24 hours a day.
  • Directs calls to various Units/Departments or other offices to check on personnel availability.
  • Receives and is responsible for registered mail, special delivery mail, and telegrams.
  • Screens and signs in visitors to the facility.
  • Receives and relays phone messages for employees/offices as assigned.
  • Complies with established hospital and departmental policies and procedures regarding workplace safety.
  • Participates in continuous quality improvement activities and promotes customer service values.
