About The Position

A Weekend Shift Swiss Machinist at Wanner Engineering is responsible for setting up, operating, and monitoring Swiss-style CNC machines to produce precision components that meet quality, production, and safety expectations. This role works closely with other production staff to perform machine setups, tool changes, offset adjustments, basic troubleshooting, and in-process/final inspection of finished parts. Essential duties include machine operation, quality and documentation, safety and housekeeping, troubleshooting and maintenance, and adherence to company expectations.

Requirements

  • 2+ years’ experience in Swiss style machining, CNC operation/Setup, or Swiss manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to read blueprints, work instructions, and follow written/verbal directions.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and ability to use hand tools and setup tools.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, stand/walk throughout shift, and perform repetitive tasks.
  • Reliable attendance and strong safety mindset.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior Citizen Swiss-style CNC machine setup and operation experience.
  • Experience reading blueprints/spec sheets and making tool offset adjustments.
  • Experience using precision measuring/inspection equipment (calipers, micrometers, gauges, indicators, optical comparator, etc.).
  • Experience with bar feeders, tool changes, and preventative machine maintenance.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate Swiss-style CNC machines according to work instructions, blueprints, and production schedules.
  • Load bar stock/raw material, install tooling, and verify machine setup prior to production runs.
  • Monitor machine performance, cycle times, tool wear, coolant levels, and other operating conditions to maintain efficiency and part quality.
  • Make tool offsets and minor process adjustments to maintain dimensional accuracy and output standards.
  • Maintain continuity among work shifts by communicating setup status, tooling issues, and production concerns to the next shift.
  • Inspect parts using calipers, micrometers, indicators, gauges, optical comparators, or other measuring equipment as applicable.
  • Verify products meet blueprint and specification requirements and report quality issues immediately to Lead Machinist or Supervisor.
  • Complete production logs, setup sheets, first-piece and in-process inspection records, scrap reports, WIP/NC/Move tags, and other required documentation.
  • Maintain clean and organized workstations using 5S standards.
  • Follow all safety procedures including PPE requirements and lockout/tagout (as required).
  • Report any safety hazards, near-misses, equipment concerns, or tooling issues promptly.
  • Perform basic troubleshooting to resolve minor machine, tooling, or quality issues during setup and operation.
  • Complete routine preventive maintenance checks (lubrication, cleaning, guide bushing/tooling checks, chip removal etc.) per daily machine maintenance log.
  • Communicate equipment problems or process concerns to Lead Machinist or Supervisor promptly.
  • Works closely with team members, leads, engineering, and quality staff to meet production goals.
  • Supports lean initiatives and process improvement activities.
  • Cross trains on other machines, works overtime, or helps other departments as needed per company objectives.
