The Machine Shop Machine Set-Up and Operator prepares production equipment to manufacture machined products, focusing on machine set-up, operation, troubleshooting, productivity, quality, continuous improvement and safety. Supervisory Responsibilities: None. Duties/Responsibilities: Primary function to set-up & operate all assigned production equipment including startup, shutdown, total set-up, materials handling, and feeding of production for machines including manual and/or computer controlled turning and machining centers such as Burgmaster, CNC vertical mills, and lathes, Swiss lathes, manual machining equipment, auxiliary support systems, new and specialty equipment. Chooses, aligns, and securely attaches holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and other materials on machines. Measures finished parts with precision tools, ensuring compliance with function, quality, and cosmetic specifications. Observes each machine to verify quality performance. Prepares fixtures and feeding devices, starts machine, and engages feed. Maintains logs and records of units produced including a record of errors resulting in rejected or discarded pieces. Inspects equipment prior to use to ensure proper setup and alignment; performs basic and routine adjustments and maintenance. Maintains a clean, safe, and orderly work area. Perform light maintenance functions including change machine filters, check and grease machine slides, check and change coolant, scrap removal between materials changes. Performs other related duties as assigned. Reports to department lead, supervisor and/or manager.
