About The Position

Christensen Farms is dedicated to training and developing talented employees. As part of this initiative, Christensen Farms offers a Production Internship program geared towards college students pursuing a degree in Animal Science, or similar agricultural degree. The Production Internship Program is an advanced level opportunity that provides students with exposure to all areas of a leading swine production company. The internship program offers individuals a 360-degree view of what goes into state-of-the-art swine production systems, which includes training, hands-on work experience, and professional development activities. Students will have the opportunity to network with industry professionals and gain exposure to all areas of the overall business. Competitive pay and housing provided. Interns are typically based out of Minnesota however we have had interns at our farms in other states as well.

Requirements

• Currently pursuing either an Associates or Bachelors degree in Animal Science, Ag. Business, or equivalent degree.
• Display a strong desire to learn and get involved in the swine industry.
• Ability to commit to a minimum 10-week duration spanning from the end of May through the first week in August.
• Availability to work Monday through Friday and one weekend during the internship.

Nice To Haves

• Previous livestock exposure is a plus, but not required.

Responsibilities

• Spend time being exposed to different areas of sow production, including genetics and multiplication, sow breeding, farrowing and health strategies, nursery and finishing.
• Learn the essentials of the pork industry including animal welfare, food safety, pork quality, neighbor and public relations, cost versus production decision making, environmental initiatives, and employee relations.
