The Swim Coach provides excellent service to team members in a safe, enjoyable, and positive environment through coaching of age group swimmers. This position primarily involves conducting practices, guiding skill mastery, and ensuring that YMCA values are incorporated into programming. The coach is responsible for creating energizing, fun, safe, and educational practices while ensuring fair practice and meet experiences. The role requires staying up to date on competitive swimming best practices and trends, assisting with the collection and organization of performance data, and building effective relationships with members. The coach must also follow all YMCA policies and procedures, commit to a set practice schedule, and foster an inclusive environment appreciative of differences in the workplace.

  • Conducts practices and guides skill mastery and communication with swimmers.
  • Conducts energizing, fun, safe, and educational practices.
  • Stays up to date on competitive swimming best practices and trends.
  • Assists with the collection and organization of performance data.
  • Builds effective, authentic relationships with members.
  • Follows all YMCA policies, rules, regulations, and procedures.
  • Commits to a set practice schedule and attends assigned practices.
  • Completes incident and accident reports as necessary.
  • Fosters an inclusive environment appreciative of differences.
  • Certified in Professional Rescuer CPR/AED OR Basic Life Support and First Aid.
  • All required training/certifications as outlined by Y-USA to maintain annual coaches' registrations within 90 days of hire.
  • Ability to maintain certification-level of physical and mental readiness.
  • Experience working with youth and competitive teams.
  • Commitment to supporting principles of equal opportunity and affirmative action.
  • Annually recertify in accordance with required training/certifications.
  • Background in competitive swimming.
  • Certified Level 1 Swim Official.
  • Certified swim instructor or lifeguard.
