About The Position

About Us Charleston Swim School South Carolina's #1 Swim School Important Information: Must be at least 17 years old to apply. As a Swim Teacher, you will provide private and group swim lessons for individuals of all ages and skill levels. Your goal is to create a fun, positive learning environment that encourages growth and improvement. Members of the United States Swim School Association provide swim instruction in their communities that builds confidence and develops safety skills in a student-centered environment. Your application will go directly to the member school, and all hiring decisions will be made by the management of this school. All inquiries about employment at these schools should be made directly to the school location, and not to US Swim School Association. We are looking for teachers who can teach Saturdays during our Indoor schedule (October 13th-May 31st).

Requirements

  • Must have experience in aquatics, such as swim team participation, lifeguarding, or instructing.
  • Teachers must be positive, enthusiastic, accountable, and communicative. Experience with children is essential.
  • Must be able to perform all five strokes and float.
  • CPR and First Aid certification is required or must have held it previously and be willing to renew within two weeks of hiring.

Nice To Haves

  • Lifeguard training is preferred.
  • Water Safety Instructor certification is a plus but not required.
  • Thorough understanding and application of swimming and water safety skills.
  • Knowledge of teaching swimming and water safety skills.
  • Familiarity with facility characteristics, rules, policies, and procedures.
  • Strong leadership, instruction, and public relations skills.
  • Excellent communication and decision-making skills.

Responsibilities

  • As a Water Safety Instructor, you will create an educational, safe, and welcoming experience for all participants.
  • Memorize and use Charleston Swim School’s approved curriculum and log students' progress.
  • Stay aware of pool hazards and maintain constant supervision of students.
  • Arrive on time for each lesson and ensure you have reliable transportation (lesson locations may vary, as you will travel to the students' local pools).
  • Be alert and prepared to provide first aid or handle emergencies (first aid kits are provided).
  • Foster a safe yet challenging environment for student growth.
  • Adapt your teaching methods to accommodate the age, experience, and ability of participants to help them meet course objectives.
  • As a swim teacher, participate in regular in-service training sessions.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors, students, and parents.
  • Complete additional duties as assigned by your supervisor.
