About The Position

As a Swim Lesson Instructor, you will teach swimming skills that build confidence, water safety, and fun for participants. This role involves guiding individuals, whether they are nervous, learning their first strokes, or refining their technique, to transform their relationship with water. The position offers free training and certification for candidates who are not yet certified. There is also an opportunity to become both a Swim Lesson Instructor and a Lifeguard, which offers a higher hourly wage. Requirements

Must be at least 16 years of age.
National CPR, First Aid, Emergency Oxygen and YMCA Swim Lessons Instructor certification (free training and certification provided if not certified).
Must pass skills test that includes: Tread water for two minutes.
Must pass skills test that includes: Demonstrate Stage 5 proficiency in at least four of the following six strokes by swimming 25 yards of each: Front Crawl, Breaststroke, Sidestroke, Butterfly, Elementary Backstroke, and Backstroke.
Must be able to relate and work with diverse groups of people in a friendly and consistent manner.

Responsibilities

Enforce all posted rules and any other rules that are required to ensure the safety of all participants.
Teach swim lessons to participants at appropriate age levels, per national guidelines of course levels and ratios.
Plan lessons for classes, be well prepared for lesson.
Responsible for set up and tear down of lessons (includes all utilized equipment).
Take attendance at all classes.
Responsible for updating all areas and certifications through the YMCA training certification program as needed for position.
Responsible to assist in the cleanliness of the pool and reporting any maintenance needs.
