About The Position

The YMCA is looking for Swim Lesson Instructors to work with children and adults. Candidates must be organized, creative and enjoy working in a team environment. We will train new employees on how to teach a variety of skill levels from beginner to advanced swimmer using games and student centered learning. Schedules vary depending on the program.

Requirements

  • At least 16 years of age
  • Experience working with children preferred
  • YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor certification required within 90 days of hire; we will train
  • CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid Certification and Emergency Oxygen preferred; certification required within 90 days of hire
  • Desire to work with individuals of all ages and swimming abilities
  • Strong organizational, verbal, written and customer service skills

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with children preferred

Responsibilities

  • Prepare to teach each class with provided progressive lesson plans which will enhance the experience of program participants.
  • Record and maintain attendance records. Set up facility or equipment, and store equipment upon completion of class.
  • Accurately complete all administrative duties relating to swim lessons i.e. skill sheets, progress reports, etc.
  • Enforce aquatic rules and policies by maintaining constant surveillance of class participants.
  • Act as a secondary responder in case of injury, accident, or illness in pool area and provide backup to lifeguards as needed in emergencies and crowd control.
  • Attend staff meetings.
  • Report injuries and complete required forms.
  • Immediately notify a supervisor of any broken equipment or unsafe aspects of the pool.
  • Report any items that may provide a health or safety hazard to staff, members or guests to your supervisor or the person responsible for those items at your site.
  • Follow all policies and procedures related to keeping children safe in our facilities and programs, including those related to managing visitors and guests at our facilities.
  • Report any suspicious behavior and violation of policy and procedures to your supervisor.
  • Support the YMCA’s commitment to child abuse prevention .
