About The Position

The YMCA is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Swim Lesson Coordinator to join our Aquatics team and help children and families experience the joy, safety, and skill-building benefits of swimming. In this role, you will oversee the daily operations of YMCA swim lessons, including group and private instruction, ensuring that every program is safe, developmentally appropriate, inclusive, and aligned with YMCA Swim Lesson curriculum standards. You will coordinate and support instructors, manage lesson schedules, and communicate with participants and families to provide a positive and seamless experience. Your work will be central to maintaining the quality, consistency, and effectiveness of our aquatics programs, while also supporting staff growth and professional development through coaching, mentorship, and feedback. As Swim Lesson Coordinator, you will monitor lesson quality and participant progress, helping instructors refine their skills and maintain high instructional standards. You will assist with onboarding new staff, ensuring certifications, CPR, First Aid, and water safety training are up to date, and providing ongoing support to strengthen teaching practices. Collaboration is a key part of this position, as you will work closely with the Aquatics Director and Aquatics Coordinator to ensure the smooth use of the aquatic facility, clear communication, and alignment across all instructional programs. You will respond to inquiries from participants and families, manage registrations and waitlists, and address questions or concerns with professionalism and empathy, always reflecting the YMCA's commitment to a welcoming and supportive environment. Safety and risk management are critical elements of this role. You will enforce aquatic safety rules, monitor pool activity, respond to incidents, and ensure compliance with YMCA policies, emergency action plans, and best practices. By modeling professionalism and maintaining a vigilant presence on deck, you will create a safe and nurturing environment where children can develop confidence, water competency, and a lifelong appreciation for swimming. Additionally, you will contribute to community outreach initiatives, water safety programs, special events, and YMCA-wide activities that promote healthy living, skill development, and engagement for all participants. The ideal candidate is a certified YMCA Swim Instructor, American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor (WSI), or holds another nationally recognized swim instructor certification approved by the Aquatics Director, with current CPR/AED, First Aid, and Oxygen Administration certifications. Prior experience teaching YMCA or comparable swim lessons is strongly preferred, as is experience coordinating staff schedules and program operations. Candidates should demonstrate strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills, along with a passion for mentoring staff and ensuring a high-quality participant experience. Flexibility to work early mornings, evenings, and weekends is required, and reliable transportation between work sites is essential. Above all, the ideal candidate is committed to the YMCA mission and core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility, and is motivated to create inclusive, safe, and engaging aquatic programs for children and families. Joining the YMCA as a Swim Lesson Coordinator means becoming part of a team that strengthens communities through purposeful youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. You will have the opportunity to make a direct impact on children's safety, skill development, and confidence in the water while supporting and developing a team of instructors who are equally passionate about teaching and mentoring.
