About the position

The City of Aurora is seeking dedicated and collaborative individuals to join our team as Swim Instructors. This position is classified as a Variable Hour Non-Benefit Employee (VHNE), meaning the selected candidate will work less than 29 hours per week and will not receive medical benefits. However, the position does earn sick leave in accordance with the Healthy Families and Workplace Act. As a Swim Instructor, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safety and enjoyment of patrons at our indoor and outdoor pools by providing swimming instruction and enforcing pool rules. This job announcement serves to collect applications for current and future Swim Instructor positions, and applicants will be contacted only when a position need is identified that matches their qualifications. Swim Instructors are responsible for instructing patrons at various levels of swimming techniques and aquatic safety, performing routine tasks to maintain safety in swim classes, enforcing pool rules, maintaining records related to swim classes, and providing information to patrons and parents. The City of Aurora is committed to ongoing recruitment and will conduct screenings of applications throughout the year. As soon as we determine to have a qualified pool of applicants, this position may close quickly and without notice. The hiring range for this position is $19.00 - $20.00 hourly, and candidates should be prepared to demonstrate their knowledge, abilities, and skills related to swimming instruction and pool safety.

Responsibilities

  • Instructing patrons at various levels of swimming techniques and aquatic safety.
  • Performing routine tasks to maintain safety in swim classes.
  • Enforcing pool rules.
  • Maintaining records relating to swim classes.
  • Providing information to patrons and parents.
  • Performing additional duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Equivalent training and experience that will demonstrate required knowledge, abilities, and skills.
  • Knowledge of pool safety and emergency action plans.
  • Ability to maintain a safe environment at the worksite.
  • Skill in swim instruction techniques.
