About The Position

Under the direction of the Aquatics Coordinator/Director and in accordance with the policies of the YMCA of Southwest Florida, the Swim Instructor provides swim lessons/private or group to children and adults of all levels and abilities based on YMCA standards and program requirements.

Requirements

  • Successfully meet the Association’s policies on background screening.
  • Proficiency of swimming strokes and the ability to instruct and demonstrate in a group or individual session.
  • Ability to perform life-saving techniques if necessary.
  • Ability to forge mutually respectful partnerships with persons served.
  • Able to maintain confidentiality.
  • Must be a self-starter, with high energy and a positive attitude.
  • Adhere to drug/alcohol/smoke-free workplace policy.
  • Ability to instruct and observe participants in proper stroke techniques.
  • Ability to lift equipment and to lift a small to average size child.

Nice To Haves

  • Bilingual in Spanish.

Responsibilities

  • Instruct all swim lesson participants.
  • Ensure the safety of participants in their class.
  • Work hours as scheduled, including beginning and ending class on time.
  • Remain after class to answer participant and/or parent questions as needed and clean up supplies.
  • Instruct and evaluate students participating in swim lessons.
  • Submit completed report cards, skills sheets, and attendance information on time.
  • Attend mandatory meetings and training sessions as scheduled.
  • Act immediately and appropriately to secure the safety of patrons in the event of an emergency.
  • Present a professional appearance and attitude at all times and maintain a high standard of customer service.
  • Utilize time clock and monitor timesheet, bringing any corrections to supervisor in a timely manner.
  • Uphold all staff safety requirements including cleaning protocols throughout the day.
