Chelsea Piers is looking for enthusiastic and reliable part-time Swim Instructors to join our growing Swim School team! This is a great opportunity for students or individuals looking for extra work in the evenings or on weekends. Our ideal candidates are positive, dependable, and passionate about working with children. Instructors should be available to teach at least one weekday evening (4:00 PM – 6:00 PM) and one weekend morning (8:00 AM – 12:00 PM) throughout our 12-week trimester. Classes range from 30 to 40 minutes. Our instructors play a key role in helping children build the confidence and skills needed for a lifetime of enjoyment in the water. The opportunity for commission based private lessons outside of prime-time youth programming hours is also a fantastic way to increase your financial take home. Compensation: $18 - $24 per hour, depending on experience Schedule: Part-time; Ideally one weekday evening and one weekend morning per week. Classes run about 30-40 minutes from 4:00pm-6:00pm on weekday evenings; 8:00am-12:00pm on weekend mornings.

Requirements

  • Prior experience as a competitive swimmer or teaching swim lessons is preferred, but not required
  • Ability to effectively teach the Chelsea Piers Swim School curriculum
  • Comfortable and confident working with children of all ages and abilities
  • Ability to work in and around water for upwards of 3.5 hours
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Exceptional customer service and interpersonal abilities
  • Creative problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt quickly in a dynamic environment
  • Capable of multitasking and making thoughtful, timely decisions under pressure
  • A proactive, responsive attitude with a strong sense of urgency
  • Ability to physically hold and or carry children of all weights and lengths in the water as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Instruct swim classes in the water with safety top of mind that engages swimmers of all levels.
  • Follow the Chelsea Piers Swim School curriculum and be able to demonstrate in-water drills and the four competitive strokes confidently.
  • Demonstrate punctuality by checking in at the aquatic front desk for any updates, setting up your teaching area ahead of time, and beginning and ending each class promptly.
  • Manage class structure effectively based on swimmers' skill level, communicate technical points clearly age-appropriately.
  • Be a team player – support your fellow instructors and be flexible in adjusting to different class needs or pool assignments.
  • Prepare each class by knowing and speaking about your students' abilities, tracking their progress, and keeping accessible notes with lesson plans.
  • Complete progress reports and report cards by program deadlines to provide valuable feedback to families.
  • Effectively communicate private lessons procedures with clients on the following items: pricing structure, available times, and booking within Exerp.
  • Participate in ongoing training as needed.
