About The Position

OBJECTIVE: To teach accurately and entirely the different levels of the YMCA Swim Lessons. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: Provide quality instruction and teach the lessons as set up by the National YMCA. Run a safe and healthy class, keeping all persons in lines of vision and when teaching an individual, keep others on deck. Instructors will teach from in the water, not on deck except to do a dry land demonstration. Be prepared for class ahead of time, including the equipment and lesson plans to start class on time. As a teacher you will be there for all classes unless there is an emergency (students depend on you). You will not pass a student if s/he has not completed everything in that class level. Introduce yourself and know the names of your students and where they are at all times during class. SECONDARY RESPONSIBILITIES: Keep lesson plans up to date in case of a substitute. Must take attendance Must do progress reports on each child for their parents. Staff meetings, in-service training, technical updates and orientations throughout the year.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 16 years old.
  • Must hold a current Standard First Aid and CPR for the Professional Rescuer certification or equivalent, Lifeguard or YASA Certification and stay current.
  • Must hold a current YMCA Instructor or WSI certification (must be willing to cross over) and stay current.
  • Must be patient, energetic and have a positive attitude.
  • Must believe in the YMCA Mission and Purpose.
