Requirements

Certifications: CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid certification and Emergency Oxygen.
Must be able to demonstrate swim instructor skills in accordance with YMCA standards.
YMCA Swim Instructor certification, or equivalent.
At least 16 years of age.
Ability to instruct and observe participants in proper stroke techniques.
Exposure to communicable diseases and bodily fluids.
Must be able to lift equipment, and to lift a small to average size child.
Ability to stand or sit while maintaining alertness for several hours at a time.
Position may require bending, leaning, kneeling, and walking.
Ability to speak concisely and effectively communicate.
Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical situations and physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency.

Responsibilities

Lead swimming lessons aligned with YMCA guidelines, using prepared and thoughtful lesson plans.
Builds genuine connections with students and parents to foster a supportive learning environment.
Promote family involvement and identify potential volunteers.
Provide information about aquatics programs and connect participants with other YMCA opportunities.
Keep accurate records (attendance, progress reports, etc.)
Attend required staff meetings and trainings.
Uphold YMCA policies and ensure all safety procedures are followed, including completing incident and accident reports when necessary.
