About The Position

JOB SUMMARY: The Swim Instructor/Childcare Worker teaches swimming lessons during the group swimming lessons, as well as guiding and caring for the children in other childcare programs. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: The employee in this position will have the following essential job functions: Teach various ages and levels swimming techniques. Assess skill levels of participants and place them in appropriate class levels. Develop progressive lesson plans tailored to individuals and groups. Provide feedback to swimmers and parents/guardians regarding progress and areas for improvement. Demonstrate proper swimming strokes, techniques, and water safety practices. Monitor participants continuously to ensure safety in and around the water. Recognize and respond quickly and effectively to emergencies. Communicate effectively with parents, participants, and staff to ensure smooth program operations. Maintain accurate attendance, progress, and incident records. Assist with special aquatic programs (swim team clinics, water aerobics, camps, etc.) as needed. Model professionalism and positive behavior in and out of the water. Explain and enforce Health and Recreation Center policies and procedures when necessary. Maintain a safe and healthy environment in compliance with legal obligations required for working with children. Attend program meetings and in-services as scheduled. Learn appropriate techniques in education, recreation, health, fitness, and safety for infants, toddlers, preschoolers, and school-aged children. Plan and deliver engaging activities for children in the childcare program under the guidance of the Aquatics Coordinator or HRC Supervisor. Attend meetings called by the Aquatics Coordinator or HRC Supervisor.

Requirements

  • The person in this position should have a minimum of a high school diploma.
  • The person in this position should have experience teaching swim lessons or a skilled swimmer, preferably with swim team experience.
  • The person in this position should also have experience working with children.

Nice To Haves

  • Lifeguard Certification is preferred but not required.
