Here's what you would do: Ensures that practice time is sufficient for all students to learn skills Follow logical skill progressions Foster personal growth, personal safety, stroke development, and fun during each swim lesson. Recognizes and corrects improper strokes or skills using positive feedback Communicates effectively with students in a patient, friendly manner Show how you are a positive role model "OK, I'm sold!" What do I need to qualify?

Requirements

  • Must be 16 or older
  • Current YMCA Swim Lesson or Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Certification or complete Southeast Ventura County YMCA Swim Instructor Training before teaching first lesson.
  • Ability to swim 50 yds/m freestyle, backstroke, and breaststroke with correct technique.
  • CPR PRO/AED/First Aid from one of the following certifying organizations: American Red Cross, American Heart Association, American Safety & Health Institute
  • Ability to communicate effectively to swimmers and their parents/guardians.
  • Ability to plan, lead and participate in swim lesson activities.
  • Ability to lift equipment, and to lift a small to average size child.
  • Ability to see and supervise children.
  • Ability to spend 2-4 hours in the water at a time.
  • Ability to instruct and observe participants in proper stroke techniques.
  • Sufficient strength and ability to react to emergency situations in an indoor and/or outdoor environment
